What are the Claremont reserves players on? 51 goals to 1 in the last 2 games. That’s just crazy!
Yeah. Big margins. East Fremantle were as bad a Subi.
Time to give North Beach to Subi.
And time for the WA football heads to end Claremonts’ stranglehold on one of the best country zones while they enjoy the best metropolitan junior zone by a mile.
The club with clearly the weakest junior metro zone is Perth. So if Ian Callaghan is fair dinkum about equalization, then a good start will be swapping the Great Southern and the Avon Valley region. Let’s see Claremont work their magic there.
Cl reserves big boys did the damage, they have a plethora of them…as EF and Subi’s 2nd/3rd tier boys found out.
TBH, whilst very ugly and concerning on paper, results like that only help in clearing out the dead wood for respective clubs coaching teams at the end of the year.
Don’t foget EF lost a core of 2nd tier senior experience this year who helped EF win the the reserves flag last year in Holmes, Burton, Aitken-Featherstone, Mead and McDonald.
Combined with a few injuries in Strnadica, Bennett, Leggett, Zadow, Tassone and Hodge, a load of current colts and ex colts playing their 1st year of senior footy playing. Some will need time and some just arent good enough.
EF reserves have been pipped at the death by a few of the current top 5 sides this year, so when available, their best is competitive, but when tested, the 3rd tier boys just arent WAFL quality at the senior level…as shown v Cl. It is what it is.
JL theres been a lot more players from North Beach JFC play for Subi over the last 3-4 years than play for Claremont.
Current senior squad numbers from North Beach
Subi 8 Claremont 0

You got me there, tiger.
Does anyone care about winning a Ressies flag apart from the players?
Every club wants to win a League flag and if clubs were honest they’d put a Colts flag in front of a Ressies flag.
Yes a strong Ressies team provides more depth for your League side but you’re not winning a League flag if you’ve got your 28th best player or below playing regular League games and if you’re missing 3 or more of your best 5 then put a line through your chances.
R&B equalisation doesn’t equal charity! Perth were no good before zones were introduced so don’t blame them. What’s changed at Perth over the last couple of seasons that now sees you playing finals? Your zones haven’t changed with any significance so what else has it been? Do more of that!
If any zone changes were to occur, compress or take away Peels zone and reallocate the areas that Perth, Swans, EP etc lost
It’s called recruiting that we have been afforded due to our inability to compete for finals due to our poor zones. Once that stops and recruits leave back down the ladder we will go unless there are zone changes.
You have one recruit on your books worth more than 1 point and that is Jaiden Hunter from my club and he’s only costing you 2 points.
It’s a full time job for clubs like mine to be scouring the country 12 months of the year for recruits and finding jobs and accommodation to make it worth their while to make the move. Your club barely has to bother given the talent stream you have.
Always so many players coming back from the AFL.
It’s a full time job for every club, that’s part of your Talent Manager and Football Manager’s role plus a huge number of volunteers.
If you think Claremont doesn’t put the work in then there is no way you deserve any our zones or any of the other clubs zones.
With our Colts and Reserves going well, why aren’t Perth approaching these young players offering them the opportunity to play League footy for Perth? The reality is you have and most would prefer to play reserves at Claremont than play for Perth.
Nice attempt to deflect Tiger but you and every other WAFL supporter knows the truth and the facts don’t lie.
I reckon there is a strong chance that we will see Claremont dominate the WAFL in a similar way to Subi throughout 2004-2109. In that era, Subi had a revenue stream that other clubs couldn’t match and were able to attract and retain top quality recruits year after year. There will always be discrepancies in club finances, but no one club is likely to have the sort of advantage that Subi did. That means that zones are likely to be a critical factor for sustained success and Claremont are in the box seat going forward. Other clubs may have a short term surge based on recruiting, but, as rednblack said, once the recruits go, so does success. Even if not dominant, it is unlikely that Claremont will ever hit the lows that teams like Perth, SD and now even Subi have. Funny how the successful clubs always claim their success is due to “good management” and “hard work.” Did Subi decide on a new policy of bad management and laziness after their years of success? Did not one coach, President, footy manager, CEO, board member or other official at Perth, for the last nearly 50 years, suggest that we work hard in our zones?
Don’t let the taxi driver in you confuse your opinions with actual facts R&B.
In 126 years Perth have only won 7 premierships, and outside of the 13 season golden era where you won 5 flags in the 60s and 70s, you average a flag every 58 years.
Not long to wait now only another decade.
Careful what you wish for Tiger. How’s your strike rate lately? Shall we start with 2013? Finished 4 games clear on top and didn’t even make the GF. CHOKEMONT?
Do I need to dig up the stats I posted last year showing how many players are drafted out of the WA clubs currently playing AFL? How do you like those facts?
Yeah dig them out R&B
Then tell me how many WAFL League games and how many WAFL League premierships each of these AFL players have played in for their WAFL club of origin?
And our strike rate hasn’t been good, we haven’t dominated the League, so if I take the Perth view then the only conclusion that can be made is that our zone isn’t as good as you suggest! We must be provided a better zone by the WAFC and a TPP concession and a bigger salary cap until we win a League flag!
What you fail to recognise R&B is that Colts or Ressies success does not guarantee League success.
Most WAFL clubs would track this data and all clubs are so close with their numbers but on average from a colts squad you are lucky if 5-7 make your Ressies squad, then from those players only 2-3 will ever play a WAFL league game. How many of those 2-3 that you can retain and get to play 50+ games is the key.
TT when was the last time Cl won a flag mate? Pretty sure it was over 10 years ago…v EF in 2012?..as you say those Cl AFL boys have done fudge all to change that league drought for Cl…and what’s even worse, any money that is made from all those Cl boys drafted…did Cl see any of it…nope, pretty sure its spread amongst the other WAFL clubs for developing their youngsters…so I guess Perth don’t miss out at the end of the day.
Yeah we went back to back in 2011 and 2012 before that was 1996.
As you rightly point out when a player gets drafted to the AFL their club of origin doesn’t receive any direct financial compensation. Clubs used to receive an initial payment when players were drafted and then milestone payments eg AFL debut, 50 games etc not exactly sure what the milestones were but that changed years ago.
Pretty sure the WAFC gets it now and each club just gets the same money from the WAFC to operate there club.
Only cash we might make out of a player getting drafted is the occasional signed AFL jumper at a fundraiser ![]()
It’s not just about flags. Claremont are almost always in the mix. They never have extended periods out of the finals. Going right back to 1987, they have missed finals all up 11 times, and for three years as the longest finals drought. So Claremont fans know they will always bounce back sooner rather than later. Then there is the fact that Claremont colts have played finals in all but a handful of years over the same time period. That’s an extended period of hard work and good management…
Is it likely to happen the zoning changes?
It seems to get talked about then nothing ever happens.
Hopefully Perth are allowed and can continue this arrangement with the Geelong reserves feeding them some players god knows they have a surplus of talent around that area.
Love to see them playing WAFL preferably for Perth
Am hearing there are a huge number of kids playing footy in the Avon too many to manage from what I have been told.
Would like to see the numbers on the difference between Avon and Great Southern zones not sure there is much of a junior numbers differential?
Basil, looks like the WAFC have allocated Perth the zones of Corio down to Grovedale…
