Big Bash XIV- 14

The Scorchers have certainly not chased International players as much as the other teams, instead preferring to develop local players and the results speak for themselves. Only 21 of the 83 players who have pulled on the orange jumper were from overseas, most of them from England and most were unspectacular. Laurie Evans is one exception but there was an unheralded Pakistan bowler with an interesting name (Yasir Arafat) who could lay claim to being the best import. He took 33 wickets over 3 seasons at a reasonable economy rate and was an excellent death bowler.
Many people may have forgotten that Pat Cummins played one season with the Scorchers (2014) but was in the middle of an injury period and only played 4 games

Scorchers on fire FMD.

They were on fire before AJ Pie was given the ball and the end result they allowed 2 bowlers to put on a record bbl 9th wicket partnership!
How Pie is still running around is mind boggling!

Great post, thanks mikeh. I’ve been a Scorchers fan since day 1, but can’t remember Cummins playing for us. Oh well, old age does that to you!!

Great to see the Scorchers have added a couple of young West Aussies to their squad…and at the cost of an import.

I wonder if the Scorchers have had any thoughts of bringing in Joel Curtis as an injury replacement wicketkeeper for Josh Inglis?
He has scored a mountain of runs for the Perth Cricket Club and Western Australia.

With Perth Club teammate Jon Wells a member of the Renegades franchise, I wouldn’t be surprised if they made a move for Curtis at some time. And the Scorchers will lose another run machine to the East.

Hey BH… Andrew Pie did a great job closing out the match right? Couldnt defend 15 in the last over FFS, Surely the guy is past it?
Real Character win for the Thunder after that sickening collision. Hopefully Cam and Daniel Sams are OK.
Pretty crucial defeat for the Scorcher when they seemed to have wrested back control after Warners dismissal

That was amateur hour by the Scorchers.
Dropped catches, sloppy keeping & fielding, poor captaincy to be behind the over rate yet again so less fielders allowed outside the circle for the last over but the real bewilderment is how on earth AJ Pie continues to get a game when they could be blooding young Jackson, Beardman etc???
But also to have him bowl the last over, Rutherford must have been giggling to himself!

As OTO said, surely Joel Curtis would be a better option as a keeper batsman than this pommy bloke. I assume they would be able to sign him to cover for Josh Inglis who is out for the rest of the BBL

Joel Curtis, Baxter Holt, Sam Whiteman are all WA based and far better keeper/batsmen than Hurst, whilst the other Pommy import Jennings cant even make the squad of 14 atm.
Piss poor overseas recruiting and they would be better off saving that money and investing it in local WA based talent!

Hurst is not at BBL level.
Connolly can wicketkeep.
Need a back up to Agar.
Seen how well Green bowled to us.
Cant see AJ Pie getting a contract in BBL 15..Not at Perth anyway.
Warners giving back plenty to Australian cricket after a great international, career.
All the best to Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft, horrible collision.
I would have a crack at Rutherford next years.Hes hopeless on thoes dust bowl wickets.Loves the ball coming onto the bat.
Great crowd allmost 47,000

Hope Ashton Turner didn’t have a few quid on the Thunder. That dropped catch was John Higgins like. That was unbelievable, don’t even think he got a finger on it and his nonchalant reaction or lack of was just as remarkable.

The Scorchers are a complete laughing stock at the minute.
I doubt Tye or Kelly would get a game for the Widgiemooltha Warriors, Turner is a shadow of his former self and it shows in his captaincy which has been horrendous of late, the Pommy recruits are abysmal and not even in the squad atm, a complete waste of money getting them over.
Just give some kids like Jackson, Beardman, Wyllie etc a go they couldnt do any worse than the above clowns surely!

And I’ll repeat. Sign Joel Curtis before another Franchise does.

Dont look like it in BBL14.
Batting of to slow starts and losing wickets.
No-one to bowl at the end. With Turner bowling out the Dorf,Richo and Morris.Terrible captaincy
Picking a 12man who drops catches every game.
If the Gades captain scores 50 of his 70 runs of the top edge of his bat.Surley you bowl top of the off stump. And force him to play straight or square.

To be honest, why bother canning them. I think they must know by now that they are nowhere near as good as they think they are or were.

Time maybe next season to swallow the pride and start looking at well performed, uncontracted Eastern States players.
Either that or bring in a second team from WA who will consider ALL players.

When you look at last night’s line up it appears very strong on paper, so not sure how they managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Turner is the biggest liability at the moment as his batting, bowling and elements of his captaincy have been less than ideal over the last several weeks but in saying that, he has a very good history in the comp.

For mine, the sooner Hardie and Marsh can bowl the better as they could use those two as a combined 4th seamer, drop Kelly and bring in another specialist batsman. Agar gave them some hope last night with the bat but he should be coming in at 8.

Can’t blame the imports for that loss…MR 4/10, then 5/40 odd, chasing 145 odd…not sure how the Pricktorians got home, but Sutherland and Rogers did the job and got their side the win.

Scorchers have lost the ability to close out games. Two times in a row they have failed in the last couple of overs to close the opposition down, something they were the best at previously.

They seem to have a pattern. Start out playing crap, then come home with a wet sail, or vice versa. If losing to a vico side is gutting, losing to a side captained by Sandpaper Warner is twice as bad.
