Does anyone have any early thoughts on season 2021.
Do you think it will be one of the inner city Melbourne suburbs who will win (and include Sydney and half of Brisbane in this).
Or could it be one of the further out Melbourne suburbs like an Essendon or hawthorn or even a Footscray??
Or could a Vic country town, ie geelong, prevail.
Or it could it be one of the franchises we just had to have like Western Australia or south Australia or the franchises we were told we could accommodate in those regions. Freo or port Adelaide.
Or could it be a totally weird and pointless invention like the west of Sydney or the Gold Coast.
I had the misfortune to watch the Dorks v Melbourne game and it was pretty average stuff by both teams, but particularly Freo, skill level was about as good as AFLW, not the Dockers girls, they are far better skilled. Melbourne were slightly better but based on that, both will be cellar dwellers. Freo had some key players out like Lobb and Walters but their decision making and disposals under not much pressure was poor. Thats after watching the Doggies super slick ball use and movement v the Pies, they are looking like they did in their flag year, Pies looked a little disinterested. Thought the Blues did very well, good skills and hard at it but Richmond are a level above the rest and could do a 3peat. Great to see Sydney and Adelaide have unexpected wins. WC should have little trouble with GC and if they can keep everyone on the paddock will be one of the few that could get near the Tiges.
Yes, young teams such as Adelaide and Sydney causing upsets in the early part of the season. Love watching these young guys particularly Logan McDonald who looked totally comfortable in the environment. You would hope that someone will emerge to challenge Richmond, it could be Port Adelaide.
Great to see footy back and will be better when the WAFL kicks off. First thing that hit me was, where was the big improvement in goal kicking that the new idiotic rule was going to fix? A couple of good close games a couple of surprises and a couple of floggings. Freo were clumsy and maybe unlucky at times and unlucky with injuries, or maybe that game was endemic of them. The Eagles looked slow against the GC kids once they got going. They obviously miss Yeo and Shuey. Hard to judge anything after the first game, but looking at the weekend’s games, this will be their last shot at a flag before needing a rebuild. What about Redden, lead boots or getting past it?
WC played about 15 mins of good footy, 5 at the start and 10 at the end to win against a brave GC outfit who made WC look slow and fumbly in the middle part of the game. Sheed was the standout worked his butt off in hot conditions to help cover the 2 missing key mids in Shuey and Yeo, Oscar Allen continues to show he is an absolute ripper, can play up forward in the ruck or down back with aplomb. The rest were inconsistent throughout the game. GC will cause plenty of problems to other teams this season, shame they look like losing Rowell for a big chunk of this season, the little I’ve seen shows he will be a real star of the comp if he can stay healthy.

Mike Port Adelaides drafting and recruiting has been excellent the last 3 seasons.Fantasia looked fantastic in his first game for Port
I feel for that kid to be honest.
Fancy having to play for Gold Coast. He looks like an amazing talent but fit or not what’s the diff, he’s at Gold Coast.
He def should be playing for a Melbourne suburb club.
Bit harsh on GC STT, they made WC look fairly average for much of the game, WC won it with 15 mins of footy at both ends of the game, when a young GC team lost a bit of focus against a very very hardened and experienced WC team.
But I can see some very big offers coming his way from the big rich teams once he is out of his initial contract and if he can shake off this run of injuries.
It would not matter if GC won the next 5 flags and Rowell got best on in each.
afl is the vfl. Always was, always will be.
Let us say the big clubs, wce ade freo said let’s form a break away league and invited say Collingwood and Carlton to join. Rich hawks ess whoever the big clubs are.
do you reckon coll and Carlton would leave Footscray and Melbourne behind?
no way.
enjoy your afl/vfl.
Its all a bit silly really.
And I’m sorry I’m embarrassed for any west Australian over the age of 40 who is into it.
Even more embarrassing STT are those over 50+ who declare themselves self proclaimed “lifelong hardcore Eagles, Freo, Coll, Ess etc supporters” who are born & bred and lived only in WA…but dont follow the WAFL!
Yeah righto champ as the local franchises have been around for all of 5-10 minutes, whilst the only exposure we had in WA to those vfl teams/games was a 30 minute show called the Winners on a Sunday night & the GF up until the mid 1980s!..it was all WAFL in the media here until 1987!

Like that whinging old fart that used to pollute this site proclaiming to be a Souf supporter who never commented on the SF board because he never attended WAFL games and knew fuck all and constantly whinged and whined why this site wasn’t more AFL centric. Admin obviously got sick of his whinging and whining and flicked him off for good. Best thing that ever happened.
Yes he once labelled himself a lifelong Souths supporter with red and white blood flowing through his veins apparently.. but didn’t actually follow them anymore. Say something criticising about Purple though and he’d get pretty fired up

He wasn’t the only Fremantle supporter they was a bit precious. A couple of former moderators on the Fremantle board were very sensitive. Admin saw the light and gave those two the flick.

I’ve been an EFFC supporter since the 50’s and an avid Eagles supporter since their inception. It’d be a bit hard for you to figure out my age bracket, so I’ll tell you I’m nearly 70. Don’t go getting embarrassed over this, you’ve got plenty of other problems in your persona to be worrying about footy supporters. There’s some pretty disparaging remarks about people like me who just love footy. No problems though, I couldn’t give an oriental fck what a bunch of narrow minded people who are scared of progress think or say. You and these type of people should be embarrassed at yourselves.
Carn Sharks and go Eagles.
STT will have to feel embarrassed for me too because I’m approaching my 50s and very much enjoy following AFL also in particularly NM, WC and Fremantle.
I am over 60 and a have followed the WAFL since whenever but I follow any Aussie rules cos I want to see the best players plying their trade and showing their skills. If that is a EP/WP reserves game or a WCE/Collingwood game sobeit, it is abt the game
