We have won the last 4 v Claremont. Can’t bank on that of course.
Amazingly this is the first 2nd Semi we in which have meet Claremont since 1989, a game we went on to win in fine style with one M Rioli (RIP) staring, only to be comprehensively thrashed in the GF by the very same Tigers.
We go into this with a full side and no excuses, the loss of last week should be ancient history now. Nothing less than a direct booking of GF place will do.
I remember that game well as a 15yo Baz, A 16yo Jackovich kicking a freak soccer goal right in front of us in the North Western pocket, Peter Matera having a big game, also Willie Rioli (a real Eagles flavour in hindsight) and 30 thousand odd people being there. I also remember us giving you a lesson in hard slogging football in wet conditions a couple weeks later to win the 89 flag. Glad it wasn’t dry that day in hindsight.
Rich Geary was originally from Richmond/Footscray and was then taken by West Coast after the 1989 season
Was a very good runner linkman who could kick goals - number 8 for SF
Not much separating these teams.
They came against each other in week 2 or 3. From memory, Claremont had a slow start in that match and Souths skipped out to a handy lead. Claremont fell 1 or 2 goals short in a low scoring game.
Expecting tomorrows final to be a good game and good luck to both teams.

Big ask for us today I think, we’ll have eight players under the age of 21 and two teenagers. We’ll need some big performances from our seniors.

I think its a 50/50 TOO. Apart from the first game, Souths haven’t exactly been dominant against any team. They only beat Claremont by a few goals, West Perth by 5 points and they lost to Perth. As you said it depends on how the key players for each team perform.
Yeah would be a bit embarassing hosting the GF but watching West Perth battle it out with Claremont. I think they will bounce back next week but I’m not sure how they are going to beat the Tigers
Conditions were prime for us today, we are small and thrive on contested footy, South are tall and skilled and write them off at your peril. If we are meeting them again in two weeks then I hope the weather is terrible again.
the problem started in the last term against the PFC the previous week; the Demons should have kicked 8 goals, and, if they had of done so, the problems at SF would have been really obvious; short season or not, at the last break, the club had the opportunity to go through the season undefeated and completely botched it.
