well I’m not sure where to begin but I’ll go with this:-
- well played East Perth and Ross McQueen
- we were totally out-coached from the first bounce
- we have played two shockers this season - the first was against the druggies and this one here
- I thought the umpiring was bloody awful all match really shocking at times
- the whole day had a surprise starting with the reserves game
- while I’m really happy with the premiership I know we have quite a few selection questions that were very nearly proven 100% correct and Ross McQueen exploited them to very near perfection
- Super stoked for Schloithey , Trey , Strommy , Hughesy , Jones , Parks , Hames Jakey to name a few
- Proud to post that Toddy got another one and that we put one up for Grilla , Eils , the young bloke & Dardy
- and while I’m on John Todd - mate you gave this red & white club great honour both for against us in your illustrious time on earth and everyone at the club is in awe of you
- we got lucky today make no mistake on that but it was time for us to beat East Perth in a grand final and the football gods granted that as they usually do in circumstances
so it is Premiership number 15 - there have been many seasons where we have deserved the flag but fallen short at the vinegar stroke
I do not crow here this evening it is a subdued celebration seeing as I know we played well below our best
East Perth deserve respect and recognition for their efforts today and this acknowledges that

The Simpson, Hamish Free!! I had no idea who would win it ,but he stood up at tight times to kick goals.
A strange strange game.
Hamish Free is the only ruckman to be an equal to or beat Scott Jones this year
his two goals won the game if you read it by the statistics and his nullifying work around the ground prevented East Perth from taking the premiership
Jones doesn’t like playing on Free because he cannot monster him at all - in fact Free ends up running all over him in games
And this is posted with absolute respect for Scott Jones as a player
South Fremantle participated in 34 Grand Finals since 1900. Todays result is the 15th time they’ve walked away with the cup with 19 times runners up. Fairly certain South Fremantle not gone through a season with only 1 loss before. If they can keep the playing group together, will be another good season next year one would think.
I don’t know what game you we’re watching,Free got a lucky out bounds on the full free kick,and snapped 1 from a ruck contest,but other than that Jones out pointed him.
Jones had 16 more hit outs,7 more marks,2 more possessions,he was easily best on ground,and I don’t know what the Simpson medallist judges were watching either.
I would have thought the winner would usually come from the winning side. Anyone done the research to see if a player from the losing side has ever won it?
Having said that I would have thought both Ruckmen had pretty good days.
A best player from SF would have been hard to pick out.

The crowd was disappointing,particularly when there was 25k last year when we played Peel???but winners are grinners Bazza,so enjoy the flag,and we will have to reload and try again next year.
Gary Ablett senior and Nathan Buckley who won Norm Smiths in losing sides spring to mind,but as far Simpson Medallist’s go,I’m not sure.
Maurice Rioli won a Norm Smith for Richmond losing to Carlton I think. 82
