2025 season

Predictions for the 2025 WAFL season Souths to be the big improvers. Recruited well, new coach and I reckon there will be a positive attitude coming through. Claremont to improve but will struggle with Prescott at the helm. East Fremantle may slip down the pecking order, lost a lot but have some good players coming through! Perth have lost some good players but seem to have recruited ok and with a new coach perhaps the culture and results will be positive. Subiaco have lost some experience, have recruited and seem to have players to progress but I am not sure they will be a real force. West Perth have lost some but recruited well and had good players return, would not be surprised to see them challenging for top 4. Swans to me seem to have stagnated, lost some good players and if Edwards goes, they may struggle to kick a score. Blakely will have a great bearing on their outcomes. East Perth have recruited and have a good depth. I will leave it to others to comment.

Top 5 in no particular order.

A fight for 5th between EP, EF, maybe Subi but raffle the rest.

Not sure why so bullish WP- can’t see enough improvement in them to rise. EP have lost Schumacher, Crowden and Randall- all part of their impressive midfield. Sharks will need a good run with injury to keep finals alive but still have a good degree of talent. Peel to stay where the are if Fremantle are healthy. SF and Perth to improve the most. SD could finish higher if the don’t lose Edwards

My team simply has to play finals with that squad with some of the best ex AFL talent. Injuries and mid season draft are a big*. Have a genuine back up ruckman and addition of Parfitt and Randall more than makes up for the losses.

EP getting Kuik back will be huge for them but lost their No 1 backup ruckman to Subi so a healthy Jones is key. Replaced their midfield losses somewhat.

Can see Swans losing Edwards which is massive. Blakely and Trew make up for losing Rhokar. Had a dream run with injuries last year.

DD i want what you are smoking. Perth to make finals. Then again they get away with cheating and get an extra 10,000 for being a joke for 40 years. They should improve

MSS genius we nearly had your mob by the short and curley’s last season at Claremont oval with an injury riddled team while your team was virtually full strength or close. Was Blakiston’s first game after Teakle got taken in the msd. Had a couple of blokes had their kicking boots on we would have smoked you.

one of the biggest type of player exodus during a pre-season I can recall for fair while
will see a quite even or tight rumble I reckon

No bold predictions but I am happy with the recruiting PFC has done.
Our midfield has been significantly improved despite the loss of Thompson.
And we have had an influx of talls.
As well as a couple of interesting smalls.
We were unlucky with injury last year, mainly to our gun recruits.
I do think, however, we will be amongst the big improvers.
Here’s hoping anyway.

The rest you can raffle but if injuries dont intervene, SD, Subi, Pth and Joondy should be right in the hunt for a 4th or 5th spot.
If Souths dont finish top 2 and make the GF their should be an enquiry after their massive recruiting spree. Good luck managing the points and salary cap!!

SS, agree totally…I’d go further though and say if SF dont win the flag…then that would be a massive choke…they have recruited the 3 best youngsters in WA from EF, in Sanchez, MacMillan and Otto…EF are farked without them…totally farked

KCEF,

Our injury list last year was shocking and we had a Reserves made up defence that unearthed a couple of gems, our midfield was thin as well. With all that we lost 7 or so games by under 14 points and 4 of those by under a kick. Now we have a defence to mat ch the best and we added midfield depth. If we finish 9th, I will go he !!!

I think SF and PT will be the clear leaders. P and WCER will be bottom 2 by some margin.

Just put the two AFL reserves last as I despise them so much

Really hard to pick this year, which is good, but I can’t see peel getting any weaker. Seriously, Peel is a funny name for a footy club.

Got a feeling Subi night be average, but you never know. Surely Perth will have a decent year, but their injury curse will probably kick in again. Off field movements seem to have evened up the comp even further after a good year last year.

Mel not too sure the Rotham boys or some tall from Tassie, where the league is pretty average at best, and a 25 yr old something tall, who struggled to get a game at West Adelaide & North Adelaide are going to ignite WP that much mate…but agree re EF, especially if injuries kick in.

Its not just them, throw in 7 or 8 regular League players who missed big chunks of last year, Roan Steele, Mitch Pierce and those close losses with a 40% Rezzies side will turn into wins. Pegs back in June will be the icing on the cake:)

I personally think we’ve seen the best of Meadows, Black and Nelson, and without West, can’t see the younger ones (Bevan, Julian, Todd ect) hitting their lofty standards just yet. Plus Keitel is still only real goal kicker - though may have been addressed with recruiting

Mel, I hope you are on the money for all WP fans sake…as EF fan, EF won a flag without perceived important cogs in O’Reilly, JMarsh, Boekhorst and Teakle in 2023…the first 3 came back in 2024, along with the unexpected discovery of Blakiston, and EF finished 5th…on paper everything appears rosy, however as you know, footy games aren’t won on paper…though I never ever count out WP, they play with a certain spirit very few sides can.
