2025 season

I wonder if WCE will look at Parfitt to cover the loss of Sheed for the season? Parfitt is AFL ready, younger than Sheed and a mid to boot. Be gutting for Perth, but I remember EF losing Joyce, Strnadica and Dixon in one foul swoop in the SPP a few years back.

My point exactly Freeze, our spirit was present last year, just didn’t have the cattle. We will see how it pans out.

Read somewhere today that West Coast have invited a young fella from Werribee over for a tryout. Apparently he’s a bit of a gun. It might save your young man Whinnen. Hope so for WP’s sake.

What young man at WP ?

Parfitt never improved after 6 or 7 years in the system…basically another Jermaine Jones…IMHO

Connor West retired. Thanks WCE for fucking up yet another career.

I don’t know if I would compare him to Jermaine Jones, you don’t play 130 AFL games which included a premiership,if you don’t have any ability.

Connor West was never up to AFL quality,so he should be grateful WC gave him an opportunity, and I’m sure they never put a gun to his head to nominate for the Draft.I’ve got to say Mel,yours and Unka’s posts don’t make a lot of sense,so you both wouldn’t be Trump fan’s by any chance??

…and IF you have that ability generally you get picked up by other AFL clubs. Jemaaine Jones never improved at the cats…over the years…DITTO Parfitt

He’s a 2022 premiership player, with a 130 AFL games under his belt, and your comparing him to Jermaine Jones??as for why he’s not getting picked up by other clubs,we’ll he is turning 27 this year which is never a great drafting age,and I see no reason why, with the right attitude and fitness,he won’t dominate the WAFL this season.

Hang on. He’s playing Amos for Scarborough. How has WCE fucked up any more than they usually do?

Whinnen is quite right BC in that West clearly must have struggled mentally. He certainly was playing above his usual weight level last season even though that didn’t stop him being a strong contributor. But that wasn’t the problem. His mind seemed to be elsewhere. If you want proof of that listen to the interview with Jason Salecic last Monday on sport 91.3 where it was made clear that the club was” only interested in his well being”.It would seem to me that a lot of players struggle with the transition of going from elite to also rans and that was also highlighted by one of your former players in Ainsworth recently which arose from the recent tragedies about Hunter and Selwood.I think the point is that WCE like any AFL club have responsibilities in ensuring the mental aspect of players when they leave the system is the best it can be so that they realise they are not worthless in football and society.Yes there are systems in place and yes some players cannot be helped- it’s just the instances of players being lost to football (certainly at WAFL level) are too frequent.

One way the AFL can contribute to player welfare for delisted players would be to funnel a heap more funds into 2nd tier comps. It’s crazy the disparity between our A division (AFL) and B division (WAFL, SANFL etc) in terms of pay.

Playing soccer of basketball or baseball 2nd tier comps in the UK or US - sees a player well paid.

The AFL should look at this.

It’s a bit tougher for Aussie Rules, soccer and basketball have 2nd tier global markets, and all extra AFL resources are funnelled into the woman’s game.I recall speaking to a young German a decade ago who played Bundesliga-B and he was on a base 5000 euro a game, and bonuses for a win,a far cry from our semi professional WAFL.

True and the AFL look at the second-tier comps as competition so they wouldn’t want to help them out. Some sort of duty of care law may force their hand though.

20 games a year for the young fella would have seen a very nice yearly income.

TAB odds for each team. Very surprised that South are are paying so much. I suspect will shorten rather quickly.

Sorry for that, could not find how to edit once it was sent.
