Zempilas to run

Worst kept secret I guess but I thought he loved what he was doing, being Lord Mayor of Perth. Has confirmed he’s going to run for pre selection in the Churchlands electorate. Personally I find the guy cringe worthy. Loves the sound of his own voice and loves being the main man. Ego driven. If he can’t remember to invite a winning premiership coach up to the microphone to say a few words as mc at the AFL GF that tells me a lot about the man. What else is he going to forget as a politician, and if you believe the hype, a future Premier??? God help us.

I reckon he’s fantastic, would love to vote for him but don’t live in Cambridge. Smart articulate and has strong opinions that I occasionally disagree with but do agree with most. Hopefully stops another teal getting in.

Good on him I reckon great value and at least we will have a pollie with a wafl connection , last one was Barnett rest dont have a clue.

Within 48 hours he’s already had to defend himself for being taken out of context, not for the first time he’s had to do this. Anyone who can’t keep his mouth shut for 5 minutes who thinks he’s Mr Everything is going to eventually bring about his own undoing. I would have thought the smart thing to do is at least finish the job you’ve just been elected to do until they decide they no longer want you, then make the jump.

Yeh at least he has a WAFL connection, but it’s a WP WAFL connection. Lol as long as WP are a protected species they won’t be told like the rest of the comp that you are on your own, we aren’t your go to when the shit hits the fan which the WAFC CEO said just recently.

And back to the Lord Mayor’s position. Doesn’t this mean they need a new election? Didn’t the runner up in the last race just quit as deputy Mayor? Seems like yesterday we just had a government inquiry into the runnings of the City of Perth and 3 commissioners were appointed to run the council. Now the recently elected Lord Mayor wants to cut and run. He should be sacrificing his salary which I know would be pittance compared to the cost of running another ballot.

I’m pretty sure he remains LM up until the writs for an election are issued. If he gets preselected by the Libs then he stands aside until the election result is known and the deputy LM runs the show on a temporary basis. If he misses out, goes back to being LM…I think that’s how it works.

Yes BC. That is my understanding of how it works.
And apparently been seen as a party leader already for Pete’s sake!

Don’t really care if its WP or any club he has an understanding of the comp and its history and all the other clubs, he’s been trying to get those cretins down the waca organized for decent development. I reckon as LM he has done a good job, brought a lot events and people into the City, he has stuck with Australia Day events and it attracted 120.000 this year , I was really pissed off with my local mob they canned they very successful Ozzie Day Community BBQ breakfast disgraceful.

I think Bazz might be a breath of fresh are in the putrid environs of the Libs. Interesting that the media has already started to attack him (maybe at the bidding of the their labour party masters) by deliberately misinterpreting a conversation with a reporter who later clarified that only a small part of a conversation was taken and was completely out of context. Bazz needs to realise that state politics is a whole new ball game compared to Council politics, the media has little care for ethics or morals against certain individuals who they may see as unsettling the status quo.

Can’t stand the bloke. Didn’t even invite Goodwin up to speak after the grand final, thought everybody was there to listen to him, what a flog

They have all admitted it wasn’t his fault as much as we all want to blame him. He had a run sheet and followed it.

You can’t seriously be making excuses for this guy by blaming someone who left the coach off the running sheet. Someone just said on this topic at least he is someone with a WAFL background lol. Yet he couldn’t remember it is tradition to invite the winning coach to speak.

It’s right up there with the Miss Universe cock up by Steve Harvey in 2015 announcing the runner up as the winner, crowning her then 2 and a half minutes later announcing she is actually the runner up and had to take the crown off her and give it to Miss Philippines. Lol

Or I think it was 2004 WAFL GF some old duck (at least she could claim old age as an excuse), called up Clint Jones as winner of the Simpson Medal then moments later saying sorry gotta give that back. Think the winner was Toby McGrath.

Yep, Ch 9 and WA Today and 6pr will hammer him for being ex 7 WEST, but the interesting thing will be how he goes with Stokes and 7 West, they have cheered on McGowan and Labor for ages now, it was all the old WA v Canberra stuff during Covid and Stokes had so many sweetheart deals on the side with property, plus Wyatt and McGowan have been lining up jobs with the big resources companies since they set foot in treasury so they got the red carpet ride. Cook and State labor now wearing thin across the board and are yesterdays men, Stokes will no doubt jump ship for a new era.

Can’t see them winning next time around just too many seats to win back, but they can give it a good shake and do it next time.

Easy to throw stones when you’re not the one standing up there in front of 100,000 people reading off a run sheet.

Crowning wrong people vs missing out on a coaches speech. Clutching at straws if you think they’re the same thing.

DD, everyone can get things screwed up from time to time, like saying Toby McGrath or Clint Jones had anything to do with the 2004 WAFL GF which was between Subi and CL. You may be thinking of the 2009 GF perhaps?

Agree Bazz, no chance at the next election but hopefully they win enough seats to be an effective opposition so the Labs would actually have to be on their toes and accountable which has not been the case since the landslide.

More like you clutching at straws Viper with a lame attempt to make excuses for this power tripper’s monumental cock up. Optus Stadium’s capacity it 65,000 champ not 100,000. If you are not up to the job then let someone who is do it. It’s never happened before in front of 100-110,000 at the MCG.

Thats when he realised his days in television were over, probably thought at one point he was in with a chance to take over from Kochie on Sunrise when retired as he was a summer holiday fill in once or twice. It was cringe worthy watching him on that show. Real try hard.

I noticed you didn’t use the quote feature SS, where I said “I think it was 2004”. Yes you know what I meant, SF v $ubi GF. I was there. Incomparable mate. By the way, you need to hit the red return arrow at the bottom right several times when quoting, noticed of late when you quote your comments are inside the last members post. That will put the cursor under the quoted message.

You just don’t fuck things like that up. You can roll it in as much sugar as you like but it’s still a turd.

I am confident he has stepped on a few toes and pulled rank on a few other journos over the journey and they are just laying in wait to extract their revenge now he’ll no longer have big Kezza there to protect him, or will he? Maybe Kerry will still use his influence. We know how tight the stars at 7 are. Geoff Parry might be told to go easy or go home. That’s not Geoff Parry’s style.

If this isn’t a demonstration of the absolute ego of this peanut I don’t know what is. Here he is less than a week after announcing his intentions to enter politics he is going on a tear using his mighty power and influence in the media to write an opinion piece in the West Australian.

It’s a warning shot across the bow of journos, don’t cross me or else there will be consequences.

And isn’t he already using his employer 7west media to self promote himself ahead of pre selection? Unbelievable. Yet he says that now he’s a member of the Liberal Party he is prevented from talking about it. Hasn’t he already broken his party rules right here? LoL, I reckon get the popcorn ? out and strap yourself in.
