To find the umpire was wrong was never in the AFLs agenda. Regardless.
The umpires are unlike head high tackles gut punches and duckers, sacrosanct.

A different game, time and context, but straight to the point with the referee,…“a terrible decision. He should be shot!”
Liverpool hard man Tommy Smith on the performance of Referee Pat Partridge in the League Cup Final and Replay, versus Nottingham Forest.

Can you imagine if a player said that in the AFL these days?AWFUL HOUSE and their Media Buddies would have a massive Meltdown!

Just wondering how long the AFL thinks it can Station Umpire Foot out of Adelaide,Melbourne or even Perth, for?
I find the rules and constant changing , along with so many “open to interpretation” a major flaw.
So 4 umpires with 4 different interpretation is always going to end up a farce. Thats what is happening now
AFL fiddles with the Rules so often, they just can’t help themselves. They can’t help themselves.
But they can’t see the irony, that with 4 Umpires’ interpretation of various Rule changes, you’re going to have trouble.
1 - Leave the Rules alone.
2 - Have 2 Field Umpires and 1 Emergency per Game.
Enables Umpiring Depth to flow down to the State Leagues for starters(not that the AFL cares about that),but improves the chance of the 2 main Umpires being on the same page.
You can keep the extra Boundary Umpire/s if you want.1 for each Boundary line quarter area from the Centre. If the ball flies out on a Centre Wing, the nearest one should cover it.
Maybe people should stop being sooks and move on and stop holding grudges and think they’re super awesome boo’ing an umpire??
Well, they can always direct Complaints to AWFUL House to STOP BLOODY FIDDLING WITH THE RULES!
That MIGHT Help the Game,Umps,Players and Spectators,…….oh yeah,Coaches too!

I find it ironic, they bring rules in to speed the game up, and it has slowed it down..last touch a prime example.
Ohhh and please explain snicko on the goal post but not on the behind post…another obvious flaw
That last touch öut of bounds” has got me completely confused. And from what I’ve seen during matches, the umpire and players aren’t much better off.
Seems to be going ok at WAFL Level.
Mind you,it’s great they don’t appear to be having mid pitch conferences about, instead getting on with it!
Fantastic!
three times in the game between North and Richmond yesterday the players knew the rules and played on, only for the umps to stop the game chat and then realise the players had it right. That’s surely not making the game faster. Also everyone needs to remember this rule is separate to the intent to keep the ball in rule, so players are playing to the rules and the umps are not sure what to pay
The most simple and easy rule to follow.
Maybe the AFL Umpiring Department should ALIGN with our Umpires on how to get it right, here!
