World Athletics championships

Enjoying watching the WAC on Viceland.
3,000 metre steeple, was won by a Kiwi in an amazing run. As the ad says, snuck up on him “like a librarian”. Over took the favourite, a Morocan champion in the last few metres.
Also watching the mateship of the pole vaulters with each competetor urging each other on. Aussie Marschall winning a bronze. Deplantis the WC just cleared 6mtrs 10. Easily.
Love the athletics.

Looking forward to seeing Gout race against the best in the world over 200mtrs. A massive test for the 17 year old.
I think there is also another Aussie teen that is quality that will be competing as well. Can’t remember his names, but think he has beaten Gout on at least one occassion.
Any one watch the polevault. What an event. A world record 6:30 metre vault. Amazing from Duplantis.

Sadly Peter Bol has not gone past the first round of the 800 mtrs. Missed by one spot.

Jess Hull, a great third in the 1,500. Took on the champ, and then had to hang on as others came at her. A tough run.

Anchor, the Swedish pole vaulter is definitely conpeting on a different level… continually breaks his own record’s…amazing effort by Hull, left it all out there for that bronze, unlike Bol who for some reason, fails to deliver ar these big events.

Freez, Hull ran a great race. She was the only one to challenge the winner of the race.Made her bronze even better for the efforts. And she found something extra late to hang on for the bronze.
Duplantis certainly is something else.An amazing effort.
Reminds me of the days od the Russian(I think) Sergei Bubka, who broke his own world records at every meet he participated in.
I feel for Bol, the athletics or drug mob took away his chance for greateness with the wrongful suspension. It seems he has not recovered from that. Two years of experience taken away.Could have, should have been different.
And how good was the mens high jump. The Kiwi , Hamish Kerr pulled the rip chord at the right time. The Korean, always smiling, had the rug torn out from under him.A great duel it was.
Looking forward to seeing Gout tonight.
As Bruce said last night, the Aussies have not done as well as expected. We are improving at athletics, but still a long way off the rest of the World.Well most of it.

Gout Gout not far away. They are running the mens 200 heats how. SBS

Aussie girl into next round of 200.
Torri Lewis

Got through his heat in a comfortable 3rd in 20.23. Will need to run much quicker to get through to the final.

Listening to Bruce talking about records, it amazes me that there are still records held by Flo Jo Joyner. Surely they were all illegal due to suspected drug use.

At 17 Gout Gout has exceeded most expectations just getting through his heat in a qualifying position…having a quick scout around all the World champ events, how many 17 yr olds are there?

Regardless if the kid needs to run faster to go deeper, he has announced himself on the sprinting world stage big time…the kid is only going to get better…

No pressure now Freez. All out rip tear and bust. He has done well getting there and did it easily.
On Peter Bol, Bruce was saying that he ran a quicker time than most of the previous automatic qualifying heats.
Will be tuned in tonight to watch Gout and Torri Lewis.

Gout did himself proud. No chocolates , but plenty to like about that run.
A shame Jess Hull got clipped from behind and went sprawling in the 800. Two girls passed wih a Q..
Two girls in the final of the high jump.

Jess Hull reinstated in 800 after being pushed and fell.

Over the duch the Kiwis will be feeling pretty good. A couple of gold to boot.
Wouldn’t want to be an Aussie over there.

A shame that it’s pissing down. USA women just won the 4x100 from Jamaica. I think anything involving throwing something is being delayed.

Mens 4x100 coming up. Aussies in it.

Aussies missed the last baton change but were well out of it.
