Soooooo in these days “sadly” sport in more about razza matazz than the actual sport. I dont like it, BUT thats the reality.
NRL go off to LAs Vagas with all the fan fare and bells and whistles to promote the NRL
Dillion goes ff to INDIA on a fact finding mission.
Me thinks the NRL has left the AFL in its wake this particular area
Agree the NRL have jumped ahead in this space but it’s also much easier for the NRL to do it given the similarity of pitch sizes for Union, League, Soccer and NFL.

Well,we’ve done all that Jazz in the USA.
But apart from the seemingly many expats in the USA,how many of the locals really give a fig about Aussie Rules?
When’s the last time the AFL sent teams over for just Exhibition Games, let alone games for Premiership Points?
As for the NRL,much as I don’t mind the game,do the Members of Newcastle and Canterbury/Bankstown get a discount on their Membership package, for a lost Home Game?
I watched about 5 minutes of that NRL game in Vegas, about as much as I could stomach, and the crowd were sitting there like church mice, stunned in silence.
But if there is a game that has a chance to succeed over there is probably rugby because they’ve got thousands of American football fields and stadiums that are rectangular and I guess NRL has some similarities to their game.

Oops, forgot to watch it,as ironically,I was talking to someone in the US.
Was it on 9 or Stan?
So I couldn’t have seen it anyway.
Used to enjoy hearing Rabs,Fatty and Sterlo on a lazy Sunday arvo.Chuck in Gus as well.
They were great as they were or as The 12th Man.

@Unkatwo I seriously doubt that the AFL have to go selling the game over seas.
V’Landys is chasing his tail. He keeps saying that the AFL is afraid of his comp, but stats from games tell us differently.
RL will never out do Aussie rules anywhere in Australia.Aussie rules gets bums on seats, people actually going to game, unlike RL taht relies on TV.
I am not sure why Dill has gone to India, maybe trying to make his own name before he gets the Rse.
But I find V’Landys an arrogant smarmy prat.So full of himself.
Was there an Attendance figure for the 70 000 Capacity Stadium in Vegas?
Seemed like the Top Decks were CLOSED meaning only 55 000 rocked up for the NRL Double Header.
Doesn’t get any where near that at home. To the Yanks it is a novelty.
Were they Yanks or ex Pats in Vegas for a bit of Biffo on the field and of course, some booze off it?
Reportedly 45k attended and it was a triple header with the 2 NRL games and an English Super League curtain raiser.
Read somewhere that about 25% of the tickets were sold to Super League supporters, another 25% to US residents and the rest to NRL supporters and ex-pats

No doubt there where some complimentary tickets for the Yanks…no different to what the AFL had to do when Port played in China

Not all about bums on seats…because its in the good ol USA it will get media coverage here in Aus.
I dont think NRL will crack the USA at all…BUT as a media exercise it left the AFL china and "fact finding " mission in India in irs wake
But it helps if the Stadium has a few Thousand more Bums on Seats,…
The NRL would be very happy with a 45k crowd, even if you said it was 15k per game thats as good as the average home crowd for nearly a third of their teams.
Not a much as they would love the media coverage.., thats what the main income streams are for sports these days
Media would have bern lapping up the freebies coming from V’Landys and the NRL. Take the cream you have to be prepared .ilk the cow.
