Winger : Hey Royal, i hear you blokes are off to Whiteman Park, new facility 40 mill and to be administered by Venues West. Don’t make the same mistake as what we did.
( started by brother Wing in another thread )
Whitey is pretty much supported by various grants and successfully so too
A new Oval would qualify for that if there was a signed tenant
Winger was on the money about the rumour as it’s on Page 49 of today’s West, Southy.
Dean Turner pointed out that Leederville Oval is trying to accommodate 10 teams ((EP + Subi) x 5) training on it weekly.
According to the article, EP would use Whiteman Park as a training venue but haven’t ruled out playing their games there.
You would think a complete relocation would be a fait accompli if the stadium is built.
The topic was discussed in some depth at the club AGM 18 months ago but went thru to the keeper at the corresponding event 6 months ago.
I haven’t seen today’s article, however the issue simmering in the background is that the City of Vincent don’t have the money (or willingness?) to provide necessary maintenance to the clubrooms etc at Leederville Oval.
While it is possible the government could provide funds, it is entirely possible it could get to a point where it is more desirable, or even necessary, to move to a new facility elsewhere.
The main driver has always been having a training venue in the middle of our zone, but it could become more than that.
geez you’d have to be faintly interested when a $40M stadium is being built in your zone that’s decent coin
as it is Whitey’s got some pretty good entertainment huge band of volunteers
Well with large amounts of tax payer and rate payers money already spent on Claremont oval, Joondy clubrooms and Rushton Park and the current and proposed redev’s of Lathlain, Moss Street and Freo oval, why shouldn’t more be spent on this sort of facility. Mind you the current state government dont like getting off their/our massive pile of surplus cash to spend money on health or cost of living issues so the idea of spending our money on local sporting organisations is a bridge too far.
Subi wont move from Leederville, too much has been invested on clubrooms and training facilities. Only thing the clubs money wasn’t spent on purchasing was the land on which the clubrooms stand, but they pay a lease for that.
The ground is needed for the local community to use, but we do not need to see a WAFL club moved. Are they going to zone the area permanently to EP over SD?
Ark in the last Wafc rezone. The only area Swans have West of West Swan Road.Is Averly.
As Perth continues to grow. The three eastern suburban Wafl clubs will push further east.
Swans,East Perth+Perth.

i remember in the seventies and eighties the idea was to move out Dianella or Noranda way.
Subiaco will keep moving north especially as West Perth growth areas will be closer to Yanchep.
Even East and South Femantle are a long way from the end of their zones.
i can see Souths zone moving closer to Peel as the Southwest explodes
Chaddy from memory East Perth move was the Dianella Recreation Centre.Morley Drive and Alexander Drive.
Dianella/Morley Amitures play there.
Hidden of Morley Drive there’s also a Soccer club there. That was the new Perth oval. Its now bushwalk tracks and a wildlife sanctuary.
Think the VFL poaching of players killed Wafl expansion in the late 70’s
