Cheers DG. Quite a few first 22 missing by the looks of it. It just goes to show how devoid of talls we are given 19yo Frazer Rickson is our starting ruckman. Big lump of a kid at 200cms and 100kg but to graduate from colts straight into the league side is a big jump even for a scratchy.
Young Henderson at FF too.
Was at the club on Wednesday for AGM of the Golds, a coterie group. Schoey and Kelly (CEO) spoke. Got the feeling that there’s energy and ideas at the club this year. Got a tour of the change rooms. They look good. Painted, cleaned, new carpet donated by the Golds.
Aflw might be moving to Leederville, which will be good for the club: more funding from the AFL and more traffic through the bar.
The whole club facilities has had a reno. New homes for memorabilia. The clubhouse itself has been redecorated.
Members get discounts on sponsors products.
Things are looking up. We just need some new members. Anyone who wants to join the Golds is welcome. $25. Brad Lahore is the president.
Yes mate it seems to be an ongoing problem since Zac Clarke “departure”
Was told PFC made 20k from the bar at the Eagles vs Port practice game.
Agree about the proposd AFLW moving some games to Leederville. The East Perth change rooms are also currently being re-configured, extended and renovated. The main members lounge was fully refreshed last season, with the Presidents lounge currently undergoing an upgrade. All both clubs and Leederville Oval now urgently need is a decent scoreboard!!!
I think that is coming
Promising signs. The kid ruckman looks very athletic and coordinated. There was a short ruckman with heaps of energy who competed like Steven Michael.
The old Schofield game plan was in evidence. Low scoring but never losing control of the game. Swans were strangled.
Backline was short but battled on. The kid from Victoria, Hayes step son, looks like another Macnish type.
Henderson up front looked likely. Siano did a few good things.
Generally, energy and spirit. For now, at least. The boys who left for the amateurs were there watching, which was a good sign. Club spirit etc. it just felt like the club is on the up.
Thanks JL. Positive signs as you say, but I guess both sides were missing a few from their best starting lineups and I don’t think Swans or Subi will be challenging for the flag. Glad to see Soks hitting the scoreboard. It’s like he never left.
Sorry Johnny-Leonard I can’t agree that having the boys that left the club to become mercenaries chasing money would be good for Club spirit. It would be great for club spirit if they stayed to help the club get through this difficult period.
Possibly fair point Prof. Maybe they felt guilty. Maybe injury and realistic expectations were also a factor. The boys in question do lack a bit of pace. I expect the team will miss their character though. I rate them as club men. I know they’ve made a big contribution.
lifelong footy observer, neuvo Subiaco observer.
observations from Fridays game;
ball movement refreshingly faster and more direct. hallelujah
the two Richmond boys real goers. bravo works like a borrowed horse and holds on like an oyster; Girolimo is a brute who kicks like a mule
The kid from Dandenong suggested he can do things most cant. the ball seems to sit up for him. hopefully he starts the year slowly and hits his straps after MSD.
But Blight not withstanding, the champ
Sokol will clearly be our prized recruit .
Blight and Girolimo to the backline will make us very hard to score against
and with the triple-prong attack, and significant depth and competition amongst the smalls (Young Douglas inked his name up there for round 1), I expect we should score more goals than we conceded more weeks than not .
which brings us to our glaring weakness: the ruck.
Finley Henderson at 19 and 200/100 was the highlight of my night. the kid competes.
Giro was BOG, but thats not a revelation.
but to answer the question, I think 2026 will bring a grand final victory over Claremont by 5 points
Thought the Subiaco forward line was the highlight for the match, looked dangerous every time the ball entered in with the mixture of talls and smalls.
Hahaha, I’m not sure about that.
Not sure you have any cattle.
Thanks RR. That’s encouraging when you consider Mayo and Borchet still to come into the forward line and Blight down back as well as Clark, Schofield and Petruccelle into the mids.
of course history and logic says you are correct DF,
but romance, and the new coach are firmly in my camp.
after a summer of aggressive recruiting, likely bringing in 7 net best 22, we would win a ribbon at most agricultural shows:
Acutely undersized the last two years, our back 6 suddenly looks conspicuously strong in the air
yes, we will also need injury luck because the KPP depth is vulnerable, but every flag requires a generous serve of luck.
delivery i50 will improve substantially, because it couldn’t not.
it’ll take something pretty drastic and persuasive for me not to believe at this time of the year.
all the best
If Subi rise up,you guys better hope it drags a thousand or so through the (Manned)Gates, because your Crowd numbers were looking a bit sick last year.
Almost eagle like!
Is Bolton on your list?
Is that why your confidence is sky high?
You blokes are starting to sound like Perth supporters. How times have changed. Well I’m quietly optimistic but I’m not counting my chickens before they hatch.
Sorry for pointing out the painfully obvious RnB, but since 1977 you blokes haven’t won a flag whereas we’ve won 11.
So I reckon we have more reason to think things might be on the way up because we have history on side, but in saying that most in the prediction thread on here rate us outside the top 5 and your mob inside.
Time will tell I guess, but I can see where you’re coming from as we have been pretty ordinary the last few years.
About time for some change, Subi will keep the competition honest…Perth should realistically finish top 2…and progress deeper into the finals then last year…injuries depending of course
