Stunning victory, with not a single unpaying passenger. The intensity on the EF ball carrier was incredible; it is remarkable how a team’s play can change so much in a week. There were a few changes from the previous game, notably Tom Smith in for Yukich. Smith did play well, and is far more mobile than Yukich, but I am unsure that the in and out changes made that much of a difference. However, Lynch in defence, Jeb up forward meaning we weren’t Kohlmann conscious, and Tester tagging Murdoch were positional changes that had a huge bearing on the game. Murdoch’s stats on paper look impressive, but most were ineffectual. The win over Claremont at Claremont last year reminded me of the game yesterday.
EF’s score is their lowest against the Black and Whites, beating the previous 7.6 on 2 Sept. 1961 on a similar wind and rainswept day like yesterday but at Bassendean. Famous game - at 3/4 time, Steve Marsh tried to led his team off the field in protest to Montgomery’s umpiring…it didn’t end well for Marsh.
Yeah Swans were great. Switched on from the start I think the bye and weather didn’t help the Sharks. And they lost Joyce pre game and Bennet early. 2 of their best midfielders.
The 22 there yesterday played outstanding football, but despite the injuries, we have two that can come back next week. Collins and Cartwright (after suspension) have had two good games in the seconds, with Collins outstanding yesterday in the nail biter. But after yesterday, who would you drop? The defence allowed four East Fremantle goals - half coming in five minutes just before 1/2 time - so any defender on the two lines would be unlucky to lose their spot.
They lost Marsh last week so 3 of their best midfielders were out of action. Not that is an excuse but a reason. But Swans would have won either way the way they played.
Wow thats a good performance.
Historically a difficult ground to play on at Moss St.In the middle of winter.
See if we can build on that win .For the rest of 25
They should make a rule that says the Sharks are only allowed to play on dry days. That’s 2 games now that we have been blown away by much better opponents on a wet day.
