WCE demanding employees play for their reserves side

WAFL Rule 9.2 Overriding Principles of the Model/ Spirit of the Agreement states categorically that
“West Coast Eagles will not use employment opportunities at West Coast Eagles and/or third parties as the primary source for the recruitment of players”.

so it is now proven that WCE have broken a key section of the rules governing their entry into the WAFL

let us just see how this pack of arseholes wriggle now

Some things to ponder. The Afl reserve player payments will be considerably higher than the Wafl,Sanfl.A salary cap probably 3 to 4 times bigger than the Wafl.
The Wafl competition now is a feeder competition to both the Afl and Afl reservers..
Afl reserves sides will poach Wafl players in the mid season draft. With no compensation to the Wafl club.
The Afl reserves will be the go to Tier 2 competition..This could push the Wafl to tier 3 like the A grade amateurs.
It may become the under 23 competition that the Afl want it to be,AFLWA.
Even if the Wafc sell the Afl liciences..You would be incredibly naive to believe the Wafl clubs.Would be the benefactors of the proceeds.
That leaves two options for the Wafl.
Go like the V8 supercars successfully done. And start our own competition without the Wafc.Pull out of the draft and sell our players to the Afl .Like small soccer clubs do with the bigger clubs.
Or option 2 is to give Nisbitt what ever he wants. He gets his own way with the Wafc
But doesn’t dictate what happens in the Wafl.,at this piont.

well mate they’ve just broken the written agreement and gained an unfair advantage on other teams
this now becomes a judicial matter and brings into question the competition itself
there’s no point to points caps or salary caps if this is allowed to go unchecked

the other thing is that the foundation VFA clubs that were forced out of the expanded VFL comp are already pissed off at the top echelon and the total lack of support over there - and more of them will be kicked out if anything does get started up

Southerner if you look back at the mid 80’s
The average Wafl crowd was around 8,000..Its now around 2,000 a drop of 75%.
The Afl has grown at the expense of all other football competitions. And the Afl reserves wont work unless it cannabilses the Wafl,Sanfl and Vfl
And steals the lions share of the remaining Wafl fans

unfortunately there just isn’t enough players to sustain what that shit show over there is now
there’s barely 60 kids that will be taken this year I am reliably told
there’s very poor retention Victorians just don’t do that - players are just pieces of disposable paper towel
and they’re hellbent on glitzy stadiums with fancy roofs & shiny TV panels that bring financial hardship with them
Look at Tasmania and the trouble brewing over theirs

Interesting pick up there Southee, the WAFC should be spelling this out. We have Sam Rotham employed at the Eagles and he has been given the ultimatum and doesn’t want to play there.

they’ve broken their contract mate and that contract is in writing

These players could by right take this to court as a result

makes a mockery of the WAFC bleatings of maintaining integrity

Waterman has already walked but whether others can remains to be seen

It’s a rule not a law but in saying that, WCE requiring employees to play for the club as a condition of employment does sound a bit dodgy in terms of the Fair Work Act.

yeah mate the wording can be taken different I suppose
but under the laws of our comp they’ve broken a rule

I’m sure they will argue this is not their primary source of recruitment and tie everyone up in bullsh1t for years to come.

The WAFC won’t take them on here this will be up-to the presidents to challenge, and they know the risk is as has been highlighted, if the eagles walk to a AFL reserves comp, so does the WAFL as we know it and the money needed to run the clubs.

couldn’t possibly be in this TV rights deal
that mob over there prop up NSW , Qld and very soon Tasmania , that’s huge money to keep them afloat mate
and they can’t run their current comp well enough to get more than 60 kids drafted a year that’s pretty shocking really
Nisbett has tried it on in the Club meeting last Tuesday when questioned over the contract rule break
