WAFL clubs records since 1987

A question for Ric from Waflfootyfacts of interest what is the playing records (win/loss, finals record- how many years of finals played, how many years missed finals, wooden spoons) etc of all clubs since the WAFL landscape changed forever before the 1987 season?

I have the win loss records since 1987 on my Ladders > Periodical Ladders page

http://waflfootyfacts.net/ladderperiods.php#20

But here’s the Win loss records per club for that period
P W L D
Cl 631 399 228 2
EF 623 326 296 1
EP 618 299 315 2

Su 641 393 246 1
SD 617 293 319 3
WP 625 334 286 3

Interesting to note Claremont need 1 win for 400, East Perth 1 win for 300, Perth 1 loss for 400 since 1987.

Cheers mate much appreciated.

Ugly reading for PERTH,Moreso since 1979.

Or September 23,1978. :frowning:

Since then,2 Bermagui Bronzes are as close as we got to a Shot at the Title.

For all too brief a moment,we were Premiership Contenders in 1986 and 1997.

Not much to speak of otherwise.

Grassy just waiting on Ric to comeback with the finals results as well but it was mainly to show how dominant 2 clubs have been over an extended period (30 seasons this year since that fateful time they formed the dodos).
30 years is not a short period of time at all and 14 premierships between the 2 clubs with the smallest supporter bases plus barely missing a finals series between them in that same time is another major reason traditional WAFL fans have become completely bored and fed up with it.
No slight against Claremont they have a good zone and develop their own kids superbly from the develop squads up to League and well we all know the real reason the other mob are constantly up there despite the blinkered view of their own deluded supporters on here.
Take out the Dodos & Dorks strengthening the former EP & Peel respectively and you have 4 clubs who have been barely competitive in that time, 3 clubs in SF, EF & WP who are reasonably consistent whilst the 2 from the Golden Triangle just completely dominate.
You would think the governing body looking at those statistics would be attempting to even things up just a touch but not our WAFC who believe there is nothing to see here all is just hunky dory out there in WAFL land!

Thanks Rick good read, great era’s for Claremont and Subi.

Yep,points taken on where the Competition is at now.

A lot of our predicament over 37 years though,is largely our Fault. No ifs or buts!

Still, did you bump into Brett for a chat by any chance?

At the very least,Leedy would have given you or Swandog some handy imformation.

Or even one of two other Cardies in the know.

Finals records since 1987

P W-L-D (years in finals / % of all finals played)
Cl 42 24-18 ( 20 / 50.6%)
EF 33 17-15-1 (16 / 18%)
EP 28 16-12 (15 / 21.5%)
PT 2 0-2 (1 / 100%)
Pe 4 2-2 (2 / 4.9%)
SF 30 15-15 (16 / 24.8%)
Su 52 27-25 (22 / 48.6%)
SD 27 9-18 (14 / 43.5%)
WP 34 15-17-1 (15 / 26.6%)

The % represents the percentage of finals played by the team since 1987 compared to all finals played by the club. Eg: Claremont have played 83 finals, of which 42 or 50.6% have been since 1987.

The competition has never been even: up to 1980 three clubs won the premiership more than 50 per cent of the time. The last Subiaco colts premiership was 1989; people should make of that what they will terms of whether the club has needed to import players to stay competitive.

One unique time AR.1973 Sub,/74 Ef,/75 Wp,/76+77 Perth…/78 Ep../.79 Ef../.80 Sf,/81 Cmt,/82 Sd
Everyone had a turn in that decade of Wa Footy.

The one that jumps off the page to me is EF and their lack of success

That’s a good stat gtrxone. Also if you take the 11 seasons from 1963 to 1973, every team snagged at least one in that period too
Swans 63, Claremont 64, EF 65, Perth 66, 67,68, West Perth 69, 71, South Freo 70, East Perth 72, Subi 73. The comp was far less predictable in those times

gtrxuone – yep, agreed; I would also add the 60s to some extent too because of Perth and SD, together with Claremont sneaking a flag.

EF and EP fans should look away for this post. I was just thinking about the eveness or otherwise of the competition, and to some degree the, the premiership tallies of the clubs mask the strength of the blue and whites and blue and blacks. On just about every occasion clubs outside the traditional big three won the flag, they defeated EP or EF in the grand final. In short, EF could have been very close to 30 flags and EP 20 flags by 1980.

Interesting, the period between 1959 and 1972 would have been torturous even though your club was successful in making lots of grannies and finals and poignant how the games record holders in Craig Wulf and his predecessor Derek Chadwick have suffered GF losses in a similar fashion. Enough for a lifetime of nightmares and insomnia

Happily Swandog, I have never had to live with EP’s grand final record from the time period you mentioned as I don’t support them; they did manage to beat the Lions in 1959, something which does tend to jar a little.

Just going back to the big three thing: if you include all their premierships, up to 1980, they won 54, or getting close to 70 per cent of the time. EF also lost a couple of flags by less than a kick and had another taken away by the league.

In addition, between 1951-1980, leaving aside 1970, at least one of the big three appeared in the grand final.

Correction Ark.

East Fremantle had a Final taken off them. They still had the option of a replay, offered by us,which strangely, they did not take.Had they done so,they probably would have Won.

So we,PERTH,Premiers for a week, were left as Premiers for 1907,

Grassy: Thanks – that was a bit daft of them. I am happy the red and blacks go that flag. Your first, and therefore, arguably most important premiership.

Interesting choice of words and I quote “to stay competitive”. Who did you recruit the season after you lost one game by one point?

Swan: How many flags did Subi win between 1989 and 2004? They were non-competitive in that decade pure and simple. How many Subiaco players did SD recruit in 1983?

The good thing about it was that I got to see two former Subi players appear in the finals for the time.

You might also remember, Swan 42, that SD also signed two Perth players in the same era, despite being premiers and the PFC being a lowly side

The job of SD then was to win the flag and they won it.
