How does the west get it that far wrong?

Been like that for decades, I never pay any attention to attendance figures in paper, just some kid having a guess.

WAFL website now updated.

I am sure WAFL clubs are required to accurately record attendance figures as a lot of public money goes into the WAFL so they need those attendance figures to be able to report to justify the investment and compare to see if promotions they are investing in is paying dividends.

Like when the department of transport made public transport free for a period of time people had to use their smart rider to claim it and for the government to collect data.

Clubs supply the official attendance figures that go in on the website - that’s what you go buy, whoever attends the game for media or does a guess ring around put the figure in the paper.

I can never work out why posters on here bother quoting media attendance reports as they have been rubbish for years.

You often see an exact number quoted in the media, that’s usually the exact figure they have obtained from the club on the day or next day. Approx figures are usually wildly inaccurate.

How anyone can take The Worst/Dumday Times match reports seriously let alone their “guesstimate” attendance figures is beyond me?
They have the Perth Glory/Western Farce reporter somehow covering a WAFL game whilst also doing the soccer/rugby.
I will say he was defiantly not even at Bassendean Oval for the SD vs WCE game in Rd1 as his crowd guesstimate was “approx 1000” when everyone who was there knew it was over 3000!

And don’t be surprised if these reporters don’t even attend. They are watching on the AFL app and therefore only seeing the crowd on the outer and see how obsessed they are with quoting the stats.

7500 for last Weekends round which is pretty good.
Perth and South had 1900 which shows Perths crowds are still strong. Swans crowd didn’t travel to see them upset the Tigers but still 1600. West and Peel had 1600 at Mandurah which is pretty good.
East Fremantles crowds must be the biggest worry as without a home game to build their support base maybe they are losing supporters . Only 1250 at Subi and East Freo . As reigning premiers the Sharks should be getting good crowds but maybe the dissapointment over the Moss St debacle maybe costing them supporters.
East Perth and West Coast with 1180 almost outdrew Subi and Sharks despite the game being at 11am on a Sunday.

Any updates on EF Oval first game?

Definitely agree with your East Freo quote. I have talked to a few long time Sharks supporters at some of the games and they have a lot of doom and gloom about Easts future as they just don’t see how the club can survive without any income from the bar , home games and functions etc due to the absolute debacle at Shark Park. Some of them half expect to wake up one morning to find the club has folded. Sharks supporters are definitely staying away from away games

There was more than a good attendance of Shark supporters at Bassendean Oval from what I could see. I’d say 50% in the McDonald and Bill Walker stands and on the outer if the number of blue polo tops is anything to go by. Perhaps depends on the venue and opponent.

Foundation Day is looming as a first top 4 Derby clash for many a year. Should pull a good crowd.

Lets hope so Bazz. Weather always plays a part so fingers crossed it’s a fine day.

Re EF at Basso 2 weeks ago.
I thought we were very well supported there as well DD. I sat on the hill near the can bar and when we kicked the last 3 goals EF supporters were in full voice and was clearly evident from the hill & both stands.
