WA v SA

Got back into town, went onto Kayo to check the cricket and we had 20 wickets fall today. WTF? Didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the wicket.

the deck had a fair bit of bounce and it strangely gave sideways movement given the baking heat we’ve had - the curator obviously watered it quite well and that may have explained the swing early
but 20 wickets here in a day is unusual for sure mate
we had some poor batting however as well that will require big rectification over the next two days at least

Gee we havent fired a shot with the bat all Summer long in all 3 formats.
It might be time to move one or 2 batsmen on to greener pastures!

It’s carnage BH…who we moving on mate?..the young batsmen or the older ones…are there any other young batsmen coming through 1st grade?

geez that’s a rotten performance
9 for 62 after barely making 100 in the first innings
I’ve been concerned about one or two for a while but this match confirms they are not first class standard yet
and may not ever be with their poor techniques

Southy, with 30 wickets having fallen for just 310 in four sessions of play, you’d suggest this WACA wicket is a proverbial minefield.
Who knows what will happen when SA bats after lunch, seeking just 63 runs for victory.
Stranger things have happened (but not many) …

Archie ,Gillette Cup 1976.Wa vs Queensland.
76 vs 63.
Dennis Lillee bowled 4 bumpers in a row to Sir Vivian Richards. Then bowled him on the 5th ball.

I remember that game very well, gtrxuone.
I purchased a copy of Ian Brayshaw’s The Miracle Match about that very game.
However, like most of my sports books, finding time to read it is a problem, so it’s here gathering dust.

Absolutely disgraceful performance by WA to be rolled outright by SA just after lunch on the 2nd day.
The WA batsmen should be standing in front of a mirror having a long, hard look at themselves after being rissoled twice in 4 sessions including in 1 session in the 2nd innings this morning.
Yes the pitch had a bit in it but no way was that a 66 run wicket.
A few have been picked on potential and given an extended go but have so far delivered peanuts (Wyllie) in their first class career when all said and done.
We can bang on about having players out but SA were missing their 4 best players as well (Carey, Head, McSweeney & Johnson) so no excuses there.
I said it before but there is something not right about WA’s performances across the 3 formats this year, a touch of complacency perhaps?!

Wyllie is not a first class cricketer mate - that is now proven
Critchell there’s another doubtful but will get more time
there’s a Fremantle young bat that needs a chance over these two
but with the entire slide across all comps in the space of 1 year the coach & selectors need to be looked at and fast
can’t stay up forever but the drastic fall is too startling to ignore

Wyllie is only young (21 in April) but he has already played 21 FC games now and has an average of 22.54 (1-100, 2-50s) which is well below the standard you would expect of a WA batsman Southy.

No first class team should get bowled out for 66 on any surface, just a pathetic performance. Its amazing how quickly WA have fallen off the cliff this year, time for some soul searching now that the Shield defence is all but over.
Even so I think the curator deserves a brick bat for producing a wicket where 34 wickets fell for 370 runs in a day and a half. Not good enough. There has been no rain in the lead up so no excuses there. McAndrew is not a bad bowler but this pitch made him look like Dennis Lillee. Other times a road is produced there as per the game v Queensland earlier in the season.
Didnt WA get bowled out by Tassie for about 60 in a one dayer before christmas?. They have had some dramatic collapses at other times this year as well

cannot be selected again until taught to play shots or to just show some intent just basic batting intent - but had far too many chances compared to some other players already mate
haven’t seen anything in Critchell to suggest there’s something there so far either
couple of the older guys probably need to be gradually phased out when the injured ones return as it looks to be time

Isn’t Wyllie scoring Premier grade runs? I guess at 20 odd, the kid just needs to find a way to transfer his Premier grade performances onto the Shield stage. Hoogenboezem is the young fella from Freo Southy might be referring to

I guess Whiteman and Bancroft will be needed for a few more years yet to guide this apparent RAT pack Voges speaks off…Voges has appeared to of lost his midas touch this year…good coaxhing challenge for him to right the sinking WA ship.

No left over crap between Turner and the coach?

Wonder how long its been since Sa has defeated Wa at the Waca.In a 4 day shield match.

Seven seasons ago, gtrxuone.
Cam Bancroft scored 228 not out in WA 's first innings and Jake Weatherald (now playing for Tasmania) scored 152 and 143 for SA.
Of those who played in the just-completed match, only three players - Hilton Cartwright, Ashton Turner and Jake Lehmann - appeared in that 2017-18 game.
WA vs SOA Cricket Scorecard, 9th match at Perth, November 13 - 16, 2017

Thanks Archie 7/514 declared in first innings. And losing the match outright, lol.

I thought it was a terrific game on a number of levels. Give me a green top and two day 40 wicket contest over 3/500 over two days anytime. Bowlers get fkall in this game as it is.

First time I’ve sat through a session and seen a whole innings. Something to tell the grandkids one day.

SA have been the shitkickers of the competition for too long. Great to see them finally developing a competitive team. Love Ryan Harris and I really hope they kick on and make the Shield final from here.

I never cease to be amazed by the inability of modern batsmen to counter any hint of movement in a wicket. Stop producing absolute roads at district level and we might be able to produce some decent batsmen. That pitch was no where near as deadly as the result suggests.

Pity I didn’t get to lunch in the Bradman Room today but heh, we all have to make sacrifices for the good of the game.

Todays results in the shield have kept WA in the hunt for a four peat even though they are currently sitting on the bottom of the ladder. Tasmania beat the Vics by 20 runs and Queensland thrashed NSW. So with 3 rounds to go here is the table

SA 36.93
Vic 29.64
Qld 27.75
Tas 26.01
NSW 25.49
WA 24.91

South Australia have opened up a 7 point gap and are looking good things for a home final at the moment, but the gap between 2nd and 6th is only 4.7, so still all to play for.
Mind you WA have to find a way to stop these horrendous batting collapses that have happened far too frequently this season or they will end up exactly where they are placed now
