The longer this thread goes on the weaker DDs argument gets. Perth’s zone doesn’t have an issue producing talent. All clubs lose their top end talent to the AFL and Perth has produced more AFL draftees than a number of other WAFL clubs.
Perth does have a huge problem retaining their WAFL quality League players though. Part of that is Perths proximity to their country zone and also Perths lack of success over the last 40+ years. It’s not difficult to understand a player accepting equal or more money to play country footy to drive an hour or two to games rather than playing at Perth. Plenty of Perths WAFL quality players also get dragged to successful ammo clubs such as Trinity Aquinas.
Keeping dreaming about getting Albany DD, that’s all it will ever be.
Fark how dumb are you? The location of PSA schools has NOTHING to do with WAFL zones. Residential address is all that counts. You sound as thick as that Tiger plonker

Amy more excuses for Perths shit club and player management dumbo?
Super Dude, we understand that residential address is the only thing that counts for the WAFL zone and that zone boundaries are drawn up so that clubs have even participation rates in each WAFL Zone.
Many of the Perth faithful have been banging on here forever, making excuse after excuse why Perth has been so shit for 45 years. Some of my favourite excuses include:
[]Perth’s zone doesn’t have any talent, despite Perth producing more than their fair share of AFL quality talent from their zone. Thanks for providing that info DD
[]Other clubs have an advantage because of the PSA school programs that exist within their zones. Perth and Claremont have equal PSA schools and plenty of Perth’s players have gone to Trinity, Wesley and Aquinas.

Perth’s City Zone has more fast food stores than some other WAFL zones
There’s been plenty more excuses offered - what’s never been accepted is that Perth are responsible for getting the most out of their zone and they struggle to engage with and retain top quality WAFL players. This isn’t because they don’t exist in Perth’s zone, its because Perth have had a losing culture for so long that the best footballers don’t want to be there. Look at how many prefer to go to another WAFL club, play Ammos or country footy instead of playing at Perth where they had little chance of playing in a side that would be competitive and certainly no chance of regularly playing finals.
None of the players coming through Perth’s system in the last 15-20 years would have been born when Perth last won a League premiership. Its hard to drive success when no one involved at Perth in any meaningful role over the last 3 decades actually knew what success looked like in the ever evolving football landscape. There’s only been old blokes with big opinions living in the after glow of the pre-80s Perth glory for too long.
Good to see Perth have finally woken up and got Peter German on board - he won’t make excuses, just find solutions to Perth’s problems. Expect to see more players shown the door for not meeting PG’s standards and look forward to Perth climbing out of the cellar if he’s supported with what he needs to bring improvement to Lathlain.
Oh how the mighty speak from their lofty Ivory Tower. There is no club more priveleged than the Claremont Tigers. Blessed with 80% of the boys that attended their 3 PSA schools zoned in the Claremont zone compared with at best 30% of Perth’s 3 PSA schools being zoned to Perth.
A population of about 33,000 in Albany, Claremont’s largest country town compared with about 9000 in Northam, Perth’s biggest country town. Should we go on and compare number of high schools in country zones, school attendance rates, average grades, average household incomes, crime rates???
This is ozfooty’s best debate. It’s been going on for ages and has all the ingredients: class conflict, nature vs nurture, culture, ethnicity, fairness, feedback loops…
Perth cricket club seeks to be going ok, by the way. My nephew is playing junior Waca there. Well run. Big Indianand Srilankan buy in. The latter helps. Think Perth won A grade last year.
Good to see Avon win the Nutrien Ag A Grade champs this year, despite all those socio-economic barriers mentioned …coached ironically by ex Cl PSA boy Tom Lee…
JL more like Ozfooty’s biggest yawn.
Perth have worked hard to get better zones and this has come.
IMHO PFC have failed in at least 2 areas.
Developing their young talent to transition them successfully to senior football. We have a crop of 7-8 youngsters graduating this year. They just made a grand final, now we must develop them. I can’t recall the last Colts captain to play league, not too many have.
We have not used our point or salary cap concessions when provided by the WAFL. This year we have and we have had the contracts ratified. Bingo 4 A Grade recruits in one year.
DD you’re acting just like the PSA schools in your district - trying to manipulate figures to create a false narrative - the PSA schools prevent the less academic students from completing their ATAR so that the school looks better to prospective students parents.
You’ve under reported Northam’s population to strengthen your excuse for Petth’s pathetic on-field performance for 45 years. The Shire of Northam is 12000 not 9000. Don’t forget to add in the Shires of York 3500, Toodyay 4700, Gin Gin 5500, Dandaragan 3500, Moora 2300, Irwin 4000.and Beverley 2000. Several other shires in your country zone at 500 to 1000…
But none of the above population is factored into the WAFC zones - its based on participation rates in each WAFL zone.
I sincerely hope you are not involved in any capacity with Perth’s development pathways, your colts or senior squads but suspect you either are or have been which would explain why Perth are where they are and why you are full of excuses.
TT also worth noting that a good part of the Avon Valley is cashed up rural retreaters living on multi million dollar properties, York and Toodyay in particular, who perhaps like DD so desperately suggests live in the district but board at a PSA school - no shortage of money in a lot of these areas. Then again South Perth, Como Kensington and parts of Vic Park are well healed as well.

Lol how do we benefit from a lot of wealthy retirees going for the country retreat lifestyle in the Avon Valley? Colin Barnett being one of them. Are they raising their grandkids on the farm?
All those Inner city suburbs are very much mixed race and mixed demographic profiles. How many dinky dye Aussie families do think are there with generations of fathers that played Aussie rules football?
It’s new growth areas where new builds are that have the highest population per household. Next time I speak to Russell I’ll get the raw numbers TT and it will be embarrassing for you. The numbers you’ve got coming through your 16’s, 17’s and 18’s year in year out is an embarrassment of riches compared to my club and probably a few others.
Only have to look at the football budget and see the number of players on our colts and reserves lists from outside our zones that are surplus to the needs of better credentialed clubs like yours. How many appear on your clubs lists from outside your zones? Let me guess, zero? Because you have an embarrassment of riches.
Anyone know where I can find a map of the current WAFL zones both metro and country as of today?

From what I can gather MoM, the last review was conducted in 2019, prior to that 2009. It is stated in the 2019 review that the WAFC tries to conduct reviews every 10 years.
I’ll try to upload the 2019 review here which shows every clubs existing zones at the time both metro and country, and then the recommendations. According to an article by John Townsend on 91.3fm in May 2022 those recommendations were implemented in June that year. See link below. Hope this helps.
