Vs Freo reserves

Team announced and only one change from last week Braut in for Tholstrup. Looks like Zac Clarke escaped suspension ( couldn’t find any mention of that during the week, thanks again WAFL! ). Will be a tough one down there and is televised on channel 7 I believe?

Sad to hear Lachlan Henderson has left. Good young player and good kid. Hopefully he isn’t lost to the WAFL for long.

Peel look very strong on paper with 14 Freo listed players.

Yep, we will be doing well to get within 5 goals of them

Tough gig this one. They’ve got a few class Freo players who can’t get a sniff in the seniors but here’s hoping they’re pissed off at missing out each week and don’t put the big one’s in. Also, I’m not sure what Aaron Heal has done to upset the hierarchy but thought he was amongst our best earlier in the year. Wardman does do some strange things at the selection table at times that’s for sure.

Aaron Heal missed a couple of games for “personal reasons” earlier and again last week , not sure what is going on there but named in the reserves this week so hopefully all good now.

Weather forecast looks a bit grim. On tv. Can see subi supporter numbers not getting past double figures. But should be a good game. Worth watching if the weather is not too bad.

5 minute mark of the last qtr and Schofield has only had 2 touches…did he get injured early? 11 points up at this stage but kicking poorly. Hopefully we can hang on. I tried watching it on the AFL app but it won’t let me because I’m in Spain…bummer.

Wow…a great effort by all 3 grades but the league in particular against an AFL loaded, top of the table FART.

Looking forward to the reports by anyone who went.

I watched it from Switzerland BC, but had to use the Nord VPN

I was there. Friggin brilliant win better than tigers and falcons. Tough hard relentless! Total respect to all players and coaches. Clark amazing liam hickmont backline fantastic. Robbo goldy amon morgan clinch…ressies pship players…stood very very tall!. Dont ever write us off!

I’m glad I’m not driving home in the rain on that freeway. I enjoyed the tv coverage. Kitch was on commentarytrying to be fair.

Clarke outstanding again. Golding excellent. Alone very good. Team effort. Savigni and Gus give in defence. Clinchy did a few useful things. Robins was team oriented.

We won the tough footy.

We mostly gave away goals with dumb kicks or after the whistle contact. Annoying on both counts . We need to get the short 45 degrees kick in the backline out of our game. Otherwise, we were hardly beaten, except on the spread at times.

If Mayo finds form, we are in business.

Good win we got the job done in tough conditions, great pressure throughout, tough game. I think we should have won by a bit more, missed a few easy ones. freo’s afl fitness didn’t come into it today, I was worried they would over run us in the 4th with a strong breeze behind them at home, but we were 2 goals up at 3/4 time and goals were hard to come by. Clarke bog again imo, controlled things after half time. Liam H and Golding were good, Alone has a damaging long kick

Great win by the Lions. Clarke would have to be an early leader for the Sandover.

Premiership fancies now !

Refuse to go to Centrelink stadium unless its a final, good decision given the terrible weather, but footy is a winter game and we played the conditions almost perfectly apart from the poor conversion.
As others have said, Clarke is in some rare form and must be leading most F & B comps, he had a decent opponent in the Freo monster Reidy who had 23 hitouts but didn’t do much around the ground apart from a goal, Zac had 35 hitouts, 18 disposals and 5 tackles, his taps to advantage especially in the 2nd half were a treat to watch and a dream for our mids who were up against some decent AFL quality. L. Hickmont, Giro and Morgan with 77 disposal between them were solid all day, that was the thing, it was a real 4 qtr effort and should have been a 4 or 5 goal win if we had taken our chances. At times Freo had no idea how to play the wet conditions, they over possessed with lots of sideways short passes and coughed it up several times, plus our tackling was fierce and well applied hence we got a lot of holding the ball frees as the Freo boys continually tried to take our part timers on. Yes we did very well in frees for a change, but were generally first to the footy.
An unexpected win, but shows what we are capable of if all 22 pitch in for 4 qtrs. We will be inconsistent with all the youngsters but it’s a good indicator for next year. Kitch had a lazy 27 disposals in the 2’s and Heal had his first game back after a lay off, not sure if anyone deserves to drop out for those 2, if Schoey was injured then Kitch comes in for him but Heal might have to wait a week or 2 as guys like Savigni, Dewar, McGowan, Clinch, Rohde, Berenger and Stainsby are all doing the job, will depend on match ups as well.
Interesting to look at the top 5 with the other 4 teams having already played WCER and have percentages ranging from 137.8 to 145.6, while we sit on 107.3. It’s our turn next week in an early 11.40 game??? and we have to make the most of it as it looks like % will determine most of the spots in a tight top 5.

Maybe Subiaco adjust to wet weather footy better than other teams? Apparently they were 50/50 chances of gaining the 4 premiership points yesterday. From reports they played well, given the crappy weather conditions.

I think there are 6 teams all capable of going deep into September at the moment which is a great thing for the comp. Will depend a lot on who can keep their best 22 on the paddock. A fully fit EF are still marginally my pick but who knows, next week marks the mid point of the season.

You guys will be 2nd on the ladder by 5pm Saturday because Claremont are playing Peel.

Mikeh, if it’s wet again, then Claremont are massive chance to roll Freo given what they produced on Sunday. Good set of results over the weekend for us, but we have to have a big win over WCER to get the % boost that everyone else has achieved. Can take nothing for granted but we should be able to do that.
