Vale Warren Ralph

Very sad to hear of the passing of Warren Ralph. A Tigers champion and made his mark in the VFL for Carlton as well. I will never forget the mark he took in the 1982 preliminary final (I think) against West Perth. One of the greatest grabs ever. RIP and condolences to his family and friends

Thats the one, thanks for sharing. Just couldnt believe how high he got off the ground.
Just looked up his stats and in 4 seasons from 1980 to 1983, he kicked 455 goals at an average of 114 a season!!! Amazing acheivement even though that era was an incredibly high scoring one

Wow that is a shock, lots of good memories of Warren really giving SF a hard time esp, in 1989..a great FF and legend of WAFL 80s.

Very sad. Great player from a great era of WA football.

Very sad news.
He was certainly a classy player.
R I P.

Only 66, true goalkicking champ and gentleman to boot…class act on and off the park…seems like yesterday Ralph was kicking his obligatory bag every weekend in the WAFL…watched him do it many a time v EF…especially in those early 80’s before Big Ron came to Moss St.

Sad news on the passing of the great Warren Ralph.
For those of us who were Primary School age in that early 80s era this guy was a colossus amongst many champions from every team.
He was the best long kick and set shot for goal I have seen in my time in football.
Gee he just kicked goals for fun back then, from memory he kicked over 100 goals in each of his first 4 seasons of League football.
Incredible to look back on, we will never see that type of stat ever again.

R.I.P Warren Ralph

Just heard the news. Very sad indeed. Has passed away unexpectedly i hear. And would not very old either! A true champion from a great era. Regularly taking fantadtic marks and certainly knew where the goal opening was. Condolences to the family

No mention in The West about how. Yes very young and recent photo with Murray Couper was taken last year I think when they were awarded retrospective Bernie Naylor medals because the award wasn’t in place until later years. He looked in good health so must have been a heart attack from the sounds of it unless he had a long illness.

Was a pure full forward and couldn’t have played in a better team than Claremont with a dynamic midfield that included the Krakouer bros, Morton, Watson, Kanther, Shaw, Panizza etc and a young Steven Malaxos on one flank and a young Brett Farmer on the other which was coined the golden triangle.

A tragic loss. Condolences to his family and friends and Tiger supporters.

he was probably the last true lead out stereotype full forward
and he had silver service from several very good kickers of the football
I don’t think Victoria saw the best of that due to the appalling standard of their “ovals”
which were basically compost heaps or refuse dumps
a long and extremely accurate kick for goal in his prime
rest in peace Ralphy
the number 16 sits comfortably in goalkicking heaven

Southy I nearly spat my coffee out when hearing garbage local media reports that Ralph was best known for kicking 9 goals in his vfl debut.
Really???
They really have no idea whatsoever these days…

Booted 3 v us in 1981 GF loss and then 8 years later played his last ever game in the tigers demolition of us in the 1989 GF, he didnt boot a goal that day, but it didnt matter, they toweled us up and him and Thorne went out on a fantastic high.

Sad to hear of the passing of another Wafl legend.
Remember before Warrens second stint with Claremont.Playing for Glenelg in 1988.
Warren won a substantial amount of money on lotto.Would of been a great highlight for Warren and his family.
Its also important to remember. That not all Wafl players where suited to VFL football.Muddy wet conditions, small grounds.
Claremont gave WR a 30m arc to lead in to.That was impossible to do in the VFL.He was a fast leading chest marking fwd.
RIP Warren
