Firstly what genius thought it was a good idea to play a WAFL game in the middle of winter at 5.40pm on a Saturday? Would have been plenty of grounds around to play the game at 2.30 including Bassendean.
Another debutant for Swans tomorrow Leon Kickett, good luck to him. Also to William Reidy who plays his 100th game for Swans.
Would be nice to keep our unblemished record against the Eagles. Swans are the only WAFL team who have not lost to them. The WCE team doesnt look the strongest that they have put on the park so Swans have every chance of getting their 6th victory of the season
Isn’t your ground one of the worst after heavy rainfall? And don’t the Eagles offer to pay 10k for clubs to play them at Lathlain? You are playing on a better surface and pocketing an easy 10k in a season that was done and dusted for you long ago so it’s not like you are playing for anything other than pride. If you were playing for a finals spot then different story.
And Perth and the Eagles have been training on the outer oval recently.
No complaints about playing at Lathlain, just would have preferred a different time. Even Sunday afternoon would have been OK
Poor game of football from a handball happy Swans, but it’s a win. No real outstanding efforts - I was unaware that Taylor was on the ground until I looked at the stats after the game and Watson was very quiet - but I am glad the team did the right thing for Reidy.
Any news on Chalcraft’s ankle/foot injury?
SH he was on crutches and had ice on his foot at half time so I would say he’s done for this year.
It was a bizarre game of footy, we barely had a winner outside of Fitzgerald, Turner & Doc & Reidy tried hard as did debutant Kickett, the rest had dirty nights.
I heard Kohlmann kicked 0.6 and most were from only 20m out as well.
Whoever is responsible for this mind numbing game plan of handball frenziness needs to be tapped on the shoulder!
A wins a win and hopefully the boys can finish off against Peel next week with the incentive of jumping up a few spots on the ladder as well as giving Swans some momentum into 2026.
Great goal on debut from Leon Kickett, very Bobby Hill in its style
It would be alright if it was a fwd handball game but it’s not and it never has been. It’s slow, backwards and sideways and it creates more pressure.
These late season wins mean very little going fwd and only paper over the cracks.
Aidan Clarke will play his 100th and final game against Peel. You’d have to think both Blakelys will hang up the boots and then there’s big questions on Erceg, Stephens, Kohlman.
With 3 spots up for grabs on the board it will be interesting to see if there’s an incoming ticket. There are murmurs that Hodly is stepping down. Andy Holmes needs to be replaced regardless but you’d think his protectors and back slapping mates will get him across the line, you’d hope not for the top job though.
The current regime have had their time and there needs to be change to try and get this club as a consistent finals team.
A massive off season and the writing will be on the wall well before Xmas.
Danger do you know why Aiden Clarke is finishing up with Swans? Hes only 26 so I would assume its a lifestyle decision?. He will be a massive loss as he is one of our best players
Will be a huge blow to Swans if Clarke decides to pull the pin. Hope he not leaving Swans for another Wafl club? He is regularly in the best players list and performs admirably.
Not sure of why but Swans did well to get him back from Bunbury. He, like others, probably came back again this year for a shot a redemption but that was out of the question after round 2. From my perspective he adds to a long list of players that have left when in or entering their prime, for one reason or another and speaks volumes of the wider club culture, on and off the field.
Names that I can think of in the last 5 or so years to depart or not return.
Clarke
Rokhar
Hinder
Fullgrabe
Glass-Mckasker
Bain
O’sullivan
Garcia
Moore
Barker
Riddoch
Boekhurst
Hughes
To think we’ve had Colts and Ressies flags in recent times too, that we could be worse off next year than where we were 2 years ago. The recruiting would want to be significantly better over the summer, especially if that part time Coburg signing is anything to go by who is/was a park footballer at best.
Lachlan Riley is the other player I can think of Danger. I’m sure there are others. I know many people didn’t like Tony Notte training in Busselton and coming up for the game on Saturday but do you think a similar arrangement could be sorted out for Aiden, given that he is such a class player? After all Bunbury is less than 2 hours from Perth. Leave about 10am on Saturday Morning. Back in Bunbury by 8.30pm. Worth consideration at least
Nah mate wouldn’t work for him at all and the club really needs to put a stop to players doing that and other arrangements around training, playing etc. There needs to be a clear standards set, a line in the sand, and an understanding and accountability by players and coaches of these standards. If players and coaches can’t or won’t commit then clean em all out.
David Ellard looks likely to take over as colts coach also.
Palmer and Fisher also.
While this thread has discussed players leaving and new suits on the committee (good), there has been no mention of the possibility of a new coach. Some might say he’s had little to work with this year, but I am unsure…
