Up coming Ashes

Freeze think he lost the keys to the bus on day 1.They had to walk from Crown to Optus
Lol

Well there are few disappointed folk on here who didn’t expect that.. …only the first test…but the wheels certainly came off that world class Eng bowling attack in Aust 2nd innings…Head’s done fudge all this summer…and then delivers that sort of knock…Bazballing the Bazballers…bazball style.

Thank fudge you didn’t put that bet on BH…fell at the first hurdle…good fightback by Boland, steady debut by Doggett…and Starc steps up as the senior bowler with a 10 for…Head opens, Green to 5, Webster to 6 and retire Uzzie…

So who replaces Uzzie
Me thinks Webster with Head as opener.

Be interested to see whose decision it was to open with Head gtr…one would assume it was Ronald as he gets the blame for all the crap decisions…

Freeze just heard Trav talking to Abc radio.
It was Travs idea to open Because of Uzzies back spasm.
He said he played a shield game last week.
Tas vs Sa in Hobart in front of 300 fans
He was on an up with the big Optus crowd
And wanted to put on a show

Head wont open next test. If he hadn’t put his hand up ,would have been Marnus again.
Still think Ronald and George have a lot to answer for the fcup with Uzzie in the first dig.

That must have caused the back spasms for Usman. No sign of him celebrating Travis big ton or the victory.

Still shaking my head in disbelief after witnessing that Travis Head innings that turned the Test on its head literally.
Well my 5-0 England prediction is out the window but I still think England will win the series, if their batsmen can keep their egos in check.
To have us on the ropes at lunch time with a lead of 100 with 9 wickets still in the shed and then completely throw it away just after lunch with some ambitious drives was the turning point.
Surely Khawaja should get a stump for his efforts of hiding in the sheds and allowing Head to open with the new rock coming off his Gray Nicholls like a cannon!

R&B I have been lucky enough to have witnessed Gilchrist’s century off just 56 balls, Warner pummel a hundred vs India off 60 odd balls and now Head do the same to the Poms off 60 odd balls as well.
For sheer entertainment that was right up there today and against a hostile attack albeit one that only had 30 overs rest after their first bowling stint!
The pitch was another belter, it was only some poor batsmanship that meant it only lasted 2 days.

Like many folk on this forum, 24 hours ago, I was convinced that England would have the First Test wrapped up by stumps on Day 2.
Scoring at Bazball’s typical 5 runs an over, I thought the visitors would be 6-350 or thereabouts at stumps with a lead nudging 400 runs.
However, full credit to the Aussie bowlers for turning things around between lunch and tea and then to Travis Head for playing one of the great, albeit unorthodox, Ashes innings.
I’m just glad I decided to attend Day 2 of the Test rather than saving myself for Day 3.
Given that Zak Crawley, Joe Root and Ben Stokes scored a combined 16 runs for the match, I’m sure that England will bounce back and be more than competitive for the remainder of the series.
Historically, no Test nation has perfected the art of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory better than the To and Froms.
Today’s capitulation has to rank up there among England’s greatest-ever fadeouts.

The English press will have a field day.

@Beasley_Hutton I think they are done . This was the one they were confident beyond confidence inwinning this one. Broken hearts broken spirit. They have never beaten the Aussies at the Gabba, two down.
Their bowlers were spent after bowling less than 40 overs in the first innings. All their speeds down. Wood damaged his knee again today late in the Aussies first innings. Archer could get nowhere near his high 140s in the first. How Stokes got five with pies, souflee and tripe is beyond me.
Hard to come back from this loss and rven harder after the Gabba

we are fortunate England has only ever won in Brisbane 4 times
and not since 1987
but there is no way Australia can play like that again and hope to go 2-0 up
shit lucky Boland got into the middle order like the pox
and then Head smashed them all over the field
and Weatherald was good until that pull shot
but seriously Khawaja must be sacked immediately
and then there’s Lyon who is on a lot of borrowed time

How do you work out Boland was lucky!!
He bowled to what was supposedly their strength. The flased, not moving their feet. Snicked out. If Boland was lucky was Dtarc lucky getting a drag on from Root! Bowling same plan.
I think both Uzzie and Lyon are struggling to hold their place. But who takes Uzzies spot. And whivh spinner for Lyon?

We were lucky mate
Boland turned it when we looked pretty dead
and after getting belted in his first innings
Renshaw has to come in now
you cannot have a heartless flea not wanting to open up
regardless of some wimpy spasm excuse
and I’d look at either Kuhnmann or Rocchiccioli
not that we’d need them in Brisbane

Disagree re luck. They had a moral victory day one, but the Aussies out played them for the vast majority of the second day. Our tail kept them in the field for close to an hour. Apart from the first wicket stance and a late flurry aftef some crap bowling. From there on we dominated.

It will be a given Eng will come back hard at Aust…it’s how they play, live and die by the sword…the big positive for me, is that Eng reputed world class bowling attack, had no answer to Head’s sword…they were challenged and meekly rolled over…Aust bowling attack…missing their best bowler, took 20 wickets for less than 350 runs…Starc got stuck in, Boland bounced back and Doggett delivered on debut.

Not sure how fatigue was the cause for the Eng bowlers to flop in the 2nd innings…Stokes spread the load in Aust first innings by using all 5 bowlers for atleast 6 -7 overs each…as for luck, geez Stokes got a 5 for, bowling pies and relying on the stupidity of Aust shot selection…as Head showed in that Bazballing 100 of his.

Good to hear Head also stepped up by saying he would open, and most importantly he as the experienced bat would take the first over, not the debutant facing a pair…that’s leadership right there…Head won’t get that result all the time, but that innings could be a defining moment in any aspirations Head may have wanting to captain his country in red ball cricket.

Uzzie needs to be called out and given the flick…fight fire with fire…open with Head at the GABBA, strike whilst the iron is hot…move Green to 5, Webster back at 6, Neser in for Lyon…the way Eng play, Lyon won’t be needed if games are done by day 3.

I agree with you Anchor…when Aust win, the naysayers say, it’s apparently due to luck, because Ronald is a plonker, and Aust side is old and decrepit…both points have merit I admit…but when other sides win, it’s not down to luck, it’s because Aust is old and decrepit and Ronald is a plonker…the naysayers will keep on naying I guess…for now it’s 1 zip to Aust, how long will it last…who knows…rather be 1 up then 1 down

@Freezin , Right from the first ball of the second dig I noticed the drop in pcae. Their bowlers were running in like they eere stiff and sore. Battling to make the crease. From constant 150, to seldom. Maybe, if I am being generous, we saw 5 over 150.
Archer bowled balls at 112 and 112Ks. Really!.
They looked tired and stiff.
I still think that Ronnie and George have a lot to answer for with the Uzzie first dig debacle.
But our boys will be going in full of beans.

We will desperately need Travis Head at Number 5 given how weak our middle order has been and continues to be
Renshaw is ready to go and to be honest should have come in before Khawaja
England will be all over Usman now he’s our weakest link and they know it
We can go in with the same bowlers and drop Lyon for Webster or Neser easily
Huge calls incoming so let’s see how brave coach & selector are
would not surprise if they do nothing at all
used to that now
