Would there be a possibility of both Weatherall and Doggett making their test debuts?
More likely the latter than the former unfortunately Anchorā¦with Hazlewood out, think the Aussies will plump up the bowling, with Green and Websterā¦can see Labuschagne opening TBHā¦even if he was batting 3, he probably would be in early anyway, with Uzzie nicking off in the first few oversā¦
I think if it were almost any other series, the selectors might take a punt. But giving the Poms a chance to go one up may stymmy that thought.
All that pathetic rag are doing is giving the Poms some ammunition (which I dont think they need anyway).
I seem to remember something similar in 1989 but it was the Pommy tabloids calling the Aussies the worst team to tour there!
We all know how that ended up and as I have predicted already it will be similar result except England will wipe the floor with our Dads Army this time!
Whilst I agree with Aust being old. BHā¦this is the same Eng side that couldnāt beat India at homeā¦an Indian side that lost 3-1 to Aust, 3-0 to NZ, and capitulated to SA this week in the 1st testā¦I think Baz n Ben have bamboozled you with their BS mateā¦quite surprized they have TBH
Freeze I watch a lot of cricket mate as you know, the Poms have us covered in virtually every batting position, the bowling with Cummins & Hazlewood out has the Poms almost level again.
I get the feeling and having seen them today Stokes & Root especially have steeled themselves for this series.
You could be on the money mateā¦I think Root will finally get that no OZ ton monkey off his backā¦he is a class act and deserves a ton in Oz conditions. Though Root scored a few v India, and they still didnāt win at homeā¦as for Stokesā¦yeah he loves to rise to the Ashes challenge, but his body is really 1 match at a time propositionā¦especially on Oz harder grounds and harsher conditions.
Time will tell I guessā¦that first session on Day 1, is certainly going to be an interesting oneā¦
I was pleased to see Jhye Richardson involved in training with the Aussie squad on the news last night.Bowling from a full run up and full pace.
Said to become part of the squad later in the season.
Hopefully his body can stand up to the rigours.
Always think it is a shame that probably a player that had the best arm from the outfiled in the Aussie squad has to rely on relay or over arm returns.Very sad.
I wonder if England have any mental scars left over from the last few tours where they have been absolutely flogged. Particularly the COVID tour of 20-21 when things completely fell apart on and off the field apparently. There are only a few players in todays team from that tour namely Stokes, Pope, Root and Wood but these guys are all crucial members of the team so there may be a few skeletons there, especially if things start going wrong
Eng look like going with an all out pace attack for Friā¦can see Carse and Atkinson bowling majority of the oversā¦with Wood and Archer bowling short spurtsā¦and Stokes bowling Botham like long hops snagging wickets.
No surprises that England will go into the 1st test with all guns blazing to try and blast Australia with pace and go 1 nil up in the series. Bashir is in the 12 man squad but I canāt see him playing so Root will take on the spin role
Australias team selection is more interesting with Inglis the only player in the squad who is not in the running. I think they will go with 3 quicks, Lyon and an all rounder and 2 debuts (Doggett and Weatherald)
Australian selectors are taking a huge risk going in with only 3 strike bowlers and Green as backup and of course Lyon. One of them breaks down we are screwed. Can see Marnus and Head bowling a few if England get on top just to give the 4 main bowlers a rest.
Massive opportunity for England to go 1 nil up in the series. Webster provides cover for both pace and spin and I thought he should have got a guernsey but lets see what happens
Eng win the tossā¦would of thought Perth could of been hotter for the visitorsā¦mid 20ās is pretty piss poor TBHā¦
Good start.
Helter skelter in the heat they swelter.
Starc 7 for. Doggett
certainly not out of place at this level.
Green popped up with one.
Crazy cricket from the Poms.
Poms first ten ovef very good. Wood and Archer very quick. They bowled very tiggt
I canāt believe that the poms in the ECB continue to let England players bat like that with no consequences. Players threw away their wickets in embarrassing fashion
so how would you describe the Australians efforts
Starc bowled well, batters are shithouse once again - thats not a wicket you should be 4 for 40 on, its bouncy and fast but there is not huge sideways movement
Can we pass the hat around for a bunch of flowers for Mr Khawaja to be sent to his suite at Crown Towers? And maybe a bottle of Radox for a nice bubble bath.
