Apparently TJ is finally leaving our screens, no longer doing the Ch 2 Sport on Weekends, probably the last of the old school commentators left.
Always thought his WAFL calls in late 80s etc were pretty good.

Yeah - Christ I’m getting old
Yeah will miss him, luved his calls during the 80’s & 90’s
Very memorable call of the 97 GF
TJ is and always was the consumate professional! The last of the real broadcasters who didn’t feel the need to hype everything up in the commentary (radio or TV). The current batch (Ed, BT, BMc etc) are just horrible and feel the need to scream everytime something happens. I just can’t take it anymore!
I usually turn off the sound if I’m watching the TV broadcast
Can someone please have a quiet word in Trevor’s’ ear and ask him not to.
By memory it was common knowledge that TJ managed to snag the Ethereal Caulfield / Melbourne Cup double at around 50/1 - won upwards of $200k i believe.

His race-calling was second-to-none! He together with the Late Max Simmonds kill the race-callers we have today.

Not sure about that, but he was a big gambler might of covered some losses, I think it cost him a marriage or two.

Yep, the great Max Simmonds and his TODAYS RACING segment after the Ch 2 news every Saturday night, ( followed of course by TODAYS FOOTBALL with GG etc. in a way TJ maintained the tradition of the after Saturday news sports segment following on albeit in a very scaled down version…I think it will be lost now especially as he had been there since the halcyon days of the 80s.
A good racecaller and not a bad footy commentator either.
Had a good Barney on air with Spud Slater in the call of a SD vs WP clash at Leederville one day back in around 1989 Spud of course had the “runs on the board” so to speak in regards to the expertise of having played the game at the top level, so he won that battle over TJ.
Will miss TJ flirting with the newsreader.

Had a love affair with the ABC sports broadcasters in the 70’s and 80’s.
Concise, erudite with a mix of natural humour.
Was in the bush when GG and Spud had a huge on air blue during a televised game. Spud pulled his “I’ve played league and for the state” against GG’s only played reserves but studied law gambit. From memory Spud didn’t do live footy much after that!
The young Sprigg comes over pretty well of the current bunch.

I thought it cost Slater his job. Memories fading but didn’t Slater say he was going to thump him
I remember as a youngster going back to the car at Ascot one race day to get something for my brother and seeing TJ hard at work in the car park…LOL…
Who was the better race caller…Jenkins or Max Simmonds?..enjoyed listening to both…
TJ used to call the races on 6PR whilst Max was the ABC caller when I was a youngster both very good TJ maybe a bit more flamboyant than Max.
I remember when TJ wanted to take up footy calling it must have been early to mid 80s and his replacement at the track was the colourful Stuart Shenton another good caller who had an unfortunate demise and then he was replaced by Darren Maccaullay who continues strong to this day some 25 years later.
The late George Grljusich another old ABC man was a great race caller at the Trots at Gloucester Park & Richmond Raceway as was John Hunt.
Will miss TJ flirting with the newsreader.

Yes, that was a classic feature, he didn’t hide it much…lol

Spud would regularly make a goose of himself, he had regular blues with TJ over stupid issues, I remember one derby back in the 80s, TJ said the WAFL should try to stop kids from running on the over after a goal was kicked which was fair enough, and Spud starting going on about how it was just a bit of fun…TJ said pull your head in some kid could get injured.
He was a life long WP supporter, sometimes it would come out in his calls, which I didn’t really mind.
