Ok anchor, you’ve goaded me into action. Bit early to make any great statements but…I was reasonably happy v Port on the weekend. Couple of young fellas were obviously a bit unsure and the pace of the game left them behind. Still, they’ll be better for this. Was happy with Jetta running off the backline. Maybe that’s his niche. I wonder if Lecras will hold his position. Big Jack didn’t lose any of his form over the break. As one wag said on radio, he may have a breakout year…most dropped marks and most missed goals. Can they have big Jack, JK and Vardy in the team together? I think Vardy is better than Jack…better mark and kick. Still as I said bit early to make big comments yet.
I thought Redden looked ok for this time of the year - hopefully good things ahead for him with a bit more responsibility. Yes, I was referring to Darling, unfortunately. Hopefully, he will splatter me with egg all over my face!! It is to see if there’s a position for Lecca if Rioli hits his straps.
I still reckon WCE are very light on through the middle. Gaff is elite, Shuey very good, Jetta good on his day but it drops off a fair bit after that to the likes of Sheed and Redden when compared to the likes of Geelong, Richmond, Adelaide, GWS etc. Your backs are up there and forwards are competitive and should kick enough goals when given the opportunity but it’s the engine room where I think you’ll struggle. It’ll also be interesting how Yeo is used…he might spend more time going through the middle which will certainly help.
Sharky, I think many people are waiting to get egg all over their faces from Darling.Promised so mut yet delievered so little over a long period of time.
And yes Redden did look pretty good on the weekend.Be interesting to see if he can maintain his form throughout the season.
I am looking forward to seeing what Rioli has to offer.
How could they all not be in ripping form both WCE & Freo as they are supposed to be all full time athletes, have all trained the house down over the Summer and supposedly all play in an “elite” comp!

Yep, agree. I think they may be hoping that Redden steps up along with one or two of the young ones. Don’t think Jetta should play in the middle and Sheed to me is a bit slow. Still, everyone said Priddis was too slow.

Hey bh old mate, you lost? Aren’t you one of the ones that hate all things AFL? Maybe you’re a closet supporter? I reckon you might be a Footscray or Collingwood supporter??
Like I have said many times here Sharky, there are a whole heap of closet AFL fans here.Afraid to show their colours afraid some of the other WAFL followers will call them traitors or tun coats.
Very polarising figure Darling. Interesting that Anchorman and others think he’s delivered so little, over 300 goals by the age of 25, I think it was 58 shark who said Vardy was a better kick than him, really? Are you kidding?
I think he’s a very harshly judged player, but that’s historically common with highly talented players (who haven’t quite delivered)
Thought Jetta was impressive but didn’t like the very short kicking. Rucks will be a problem this season with Nicnat not ready. All Rioli’s play well so this Willie should slot in well. Mid clearances are also down.

If Vardy plays a few more years with the Eagles, then we can compare he and a Darling. I stand by my comment of Vardy being a better mark. Very seldom do you see the ball bouncing off his chest or slipping through his fingers as does with Jack.

Jack may not be a top player in A/M’s opinion but his size & marking takes a good opposition player therefore giving Kennedy an easier run at the ball. Apart from Pav who retired with a good career there is no one forward at Freo who needs this much attention. It’s called TANDEM so either Kennedy or Darling isnt double teamed..
