Tigers v Tigers

Might be an interesting game tomorrow night in the Foxtel Cup.

2012 NEAFL Premiers Queanbeyan Tigers v the 2012 VFL Premiers Wirribee Tigers, who according to the AFL are third and second tier leagues respectively.

The Wirribee Tigers are currently sitting 11th in the 14 team VFL, and Queanbeyan 3rd from a 9 team comp, with 5 wins 3 losses.

The Queanbeyan Tigers had a Bye this weekend, the same as East Fremantle and Norword did the week before, however their last game played at the SGC on the 18th of may was a thrashing at the hands of Sydney’s ressies.

Sydney Swans 23.13-151
Queanbeyan Tigers 5.8-38

There were a few notible absences from this Queanbeyan list without James Kavanagh (injured) and Ryan Quade (illness).

Team lists yet to be advised…

Mike.

Is Ryan Quade any relation to Ricky Quade Mike?

Not quite sure BH, not a common name. Daniher is one of the Danihers.

Queanbeyan were simply out matched lastnight. Talking to some up the club on Sunday it was always going to be hard. They were out there playing for one another, not selection for an AFL team.

They are a hard tacking team who like the handball and short chips backwards. It usually it get them out of trouble in the local comp.

There is a big difference between VFL and NEAFL. On the day a good NEAFL game is the same as a good WAFL Ressies game. Good solid footy with hard tackles, not an athletics carnival through the centre.

Kaine Stevens is the one to watch. He has had a offers from a couple of the VFL and SANFL teams to play, but is wanting to finish an apprenticship.

The commentators actually mentioned that Ryan was a cousin of former South Melbourne/Sydney player, captain & coach Ricky Quade!

There you go, didn’t hear that part last night.

I guess the biggest footy name to come out of Queanbeyan is no less than Tom Wills himself. He was born just outside of Queanbeyan in 1835.

There is (as you can imagine) stories around this town suggesting the young Tom Wills experimented with the game at the Queanbeyan Show grounds all those years before moving to Victoria. The ground is still there in the middle of town and is heritage listed. I guess they just have to prove it.
