I’ll be disappointed if we don’t win. Like the look of the team. East Perth aren’t that fast. I reckon we might match up pretty well against their big mids. I prefer Foley on half back line. Maybe time for Savigni to play forward or in the middle.
As a long time supporter, I can’t question the effort our guys put in every week, but it’s the execution and game plan which concerns me greatly. Our skills at times have been terrible all year with missed targets and turnovers costing us dearly.
I also don’t think the way we structure up behind the ball is as good as it should be because other teams tend to transition the ball into their forward 50 much easier than we do. In my opinion, our defenders push up way too high and when the ball turns over in our front half which it invariably does, we’re caught out with the opposition forwards between our backs and their goals with lots of open space to run into.
Clark good, Robbins did some useful things, I liked Savigni’s game, the Motts got plenty of it, Evitt learning and worth persevering with, Kitch and Foley broke even with EP through the middle and I thought Snadden had a good game. A special mention to Kody Eaton who was 10cm shorter than big Jones but battled on manfully even though he copped a leg injury early in the second qtr.
Borchet is out of his depth as a key defender and although we went into forward 50 much better this week and scored 50% of the time when we did, we’re way too short in attack with only Mayo and 19yo Kentfield as our primary tall targets. Most of our misses were from snaps under pressure because we don’t have anyone to clunk marks and take set shots
We can kiss finals goodbye and reckon it’s an opportunity to play some young blokes to see what they can do. Nasty elbow injury to Gus and hope he’s ok.
Can’t think of much to add to that BC. Thought Golding was useful in the middle. Up to 3/4 time we were right in it. Snaddens best game, for sure. Robin’s pace is really something now.
Crowd was reasonable, though not many subi to be honest. Beer choice was very average in club.
Surprisingly we are only 1 game and % out of the 5 but realistically we are done as BC said. Sokol out for 3-4 weeks, Gus probably for a long time, same with Hayden and Lockyer, Braut still a couple of weeks. Mullane should be in next week. Are we the worse side in the comp atm? Maybe we might beat wc…if we’re lucky
Only the second game I have seen live this season but disappointed in our skills and method again. Turned the ball over too many times with skill error’s although the effort was there. Definitely time to start blooding young players especially if they have good pace and skills. Haven’t seen enough of what we have in the reserves but Mullane would be a good start.
Ryan Borchet seems to have lost all confidence and is probably due a stint in the twos.
On another note I put myself through it again and watched the replay on 7 and they had a short clangers section and it showed the 1981 footage of where S v ferals were fighting it out for 4th spot late in the season. I’ve spoke about it here before when Brian Taylor had a kick 30 metres out directly in front which would have given us the lead late in the final quarter but unfortunately he kicked it into the man on the mark and we fell into a hole after the miss and lost the game . In all these years I have never seen the footage of that and I have looked. I would like to know just how much old WAFL footage 7 has that they have never released. They said they threw it all out but now I beg to differ
there was a lot of history destroyed by the Court government and that absolute dickhead Eric Charlton - an incredible amount of stuff that could have been used at museums and the like is gone forever it was just dumped

Speaking of old footage, went to the wafl playback subi film at backlot cinema today. Sean cowan put together old video footage he’d collected. 85 preliminary final footage was intense. Some tough losses against west Perth, east Perth and swans in the early 80s. Brian Doug running around in bright yellow shorts. Featherby carving it up. Gee Neil Taylor was a good player. Phil lamb ditto. Neil told some excellent stories afterwards. And some sad ones. Only 25 turned up, but a great afternoon.
I thought I’d bring this up again. Last time we stayed with them up until 3/4 time but a 6 goal to 3 last quarter wasn’t ideal. We’ll have pretty much the same team except no Kentfield and Soks back in which evens itself out.
If we’re to be any chance we have to break even through the middle and be far more efficient going into forward 50. Once again Eaton taking on big Jones isn’t something he’d relish I reckon. Tough gig giving away 10cms and 20kgs in the ruck.
As expected although I still think the wagon driver was worth persevering with.
