This week against the Bogans

Senior seagull, I’m waiting for your take on Saturday night’s game.

As for the future, I think Subi have no option but to keep working their zones. I spoke to a mate at the game, who sees the amateurs as having too many past Subi players in their prime that we’re missing out on.

I’m not too worried about being bad. Someone has to be last and it’s our turn. I’m more worried about the number of supporters we have and the financial health of the club. I don’t think the current administration is doing a bad job necessarily. I think they do a pretty good job but I’m not in a position to judge.

The problem is, if you dish up shit, supporters will drop off and you certainly won’t pick up any new ones

Being compared to fkn peel at there worst doesn’t sit well with me so being that bad bothers me. I’ve been through that before in the glory years mid 70’s- mid 80’s, as I’m sure most on here have and that wasn’t much fun

Working our zones, all well and good, some of these boys have talent but they don’t seem to give a shit, no heart. Something is not right

Fair enough DG.

Like DG, that performance sent me back to 1981/82 when were were abysmal, but at least we were building towards the Bunton era with good lads coming up trough the colts and reserves like Keene etc. Cant see that quality coming through at the moment. You mention about all the former players in ammo’s, my info on that from a reliable source is that many of those boys will not come back until Wardman has gone and there are a few in ammos that would walk straight back in based on their skills when they were at the club.

I think it’s the state game this weekend, so we should see big Edwards come in to lead the ruck v the Doggies, this should help our ailing mids who, apart from the skipper cant manufacture a clearance. The only mid with any pace is Gyro who plays his heart out week after week, we are not getting enough from the Hickmonts who in the past, gave us great drive and connection from stoppages. Swans who dont have that many big bodies mids but all have genuine pace, tore us apart nearly the whole game so it should be obvious to the selectors/recruiters what sorts of players we need to bolster our ailing list. Our forward line is/could be one of the best in the comp with 3 quality talls in Mayo, May and Borchet but the delivery in is just awful and indicates there’s very little direction coming from the coaching group to address this issue that has plagued us for the last 3 years.
As we all know the real elephant in the room is the backline which has been decimated by retirements and injuries. Lockyer sadly cant seem to keep his body right and Foley is a week or 2 away, so we have flankers having to play key positions and while their effort cant be questioned they are simply outsized every week, the recruiters desperately need to find 2 quality key backs if we are progress next season. Recently our selectors/recruiters have been very slow to address these sorts of areas as was seen with how long they took to find a genuine ruckman to replace Clarke. They need to do better as any genuine rebuild will take a minimum 3 years before we can be in a position to contend.

You’re right. The wafl is a recruiting game. We need to find another Dewar, lockyer, Rhode and the other guy, from Peel. Lovely mark.

Then another Kitchen and delahunty, Webby, Pickett.

But some home grown class is possible, eg, Brad Smith, phelan, Clancy Wheeler, Horse. Rumble.

Got to find that as well.

At seasons end if nothing changes will it still be Wardman or someone else. Horsley would be perfect for you BUT can you afford him and would he leave WC,

Grump, would love to see Horse at the helm but he has a good fulltime gig at the Toasters and these days WAFL clubs can only justify part time coaches, so unless he can get a fulltime gig, we wont see him in the WAFL anytime soon. The club inexplicably extended Wardmans contract so he’d need to be paid out which all clubs including Subi cant really justify the additional costs. Wardmans been there since 2019 and on the back of what Schoey built, coached 2 flags and a prelim, but the last 3 years have been dismal and unacceptable, we are not as big and fit as we once used to be, thats something that should be easily addressed, the rest of the issues are around coaching personel and recruiting. You only have to look at what Souths and Perth have done with strong recruiting this season and what Swans did last year to see whats required to be a sucessfull WAFL club.

We can only dream…

Read an online article re the MSD where Archer May is on at least 4 AFL clubs radars, no real surprise, he has the talent to get an AFL gig and at 20 he’s a youngster, but as usual will probably end up as a list filler like Mayo was. If he has a standout in the state game he will very likely get drafted. Wonder why he never got elevated to Richmonds AFL list when he was with their VFL side. Young 198cm guys like him are usually snapped up. Would be another nail in our rickety old white ant infested coffin of a season.

White ant infested coffin. That doesn’t sound good. Rickety, as well.
