I know folk keep saying it was only a scratch match but having sat through them looking for positives I was really scratching to get many.
Stan Wright back and showed a bit in the Cl game, Jonesy did well, Kuek looked he could blossom at any moment. The lad from Subi Edwards- Baldwin may be a good inclusion (although his best player rating was , ) Fullgrabbe and Watts will be good down back with Eaton. Christian Amerduri if left in the league will be a good one and so I can make cases for good ones but against a resurgent Subi we would have to improve our skills, game plan and overall commitment. I can only hope it comes from Ramsay and Robertson and their leadership.
Robertson seems to be a target for other teams and he has to wear it and play football at the high level he can.
I’m not sure if you’re just playing things down a bit Grump but I reckon your mob will be ok this year based on the back end of 2020 plus I really rate Barnard as a coach. He should impart some toughness into the group. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they finish top 5. This should be a good game and looking forward to it although quite a few of the Subi players have had an interrupted preseason so who knows I guess.
All reports is Barnard is a hard taskmaster with everyone at the club. Very similar to his former coach Micale. One difference is that Micale had a lot better cattle to work with. So I think this approach has a very short shelf life without winning frequently. We couldn’t recruit anyone for a few reasons which probably limits our competitiveness.

So why could you not recruit, thought EP were cashed up from the Eagle Years
The reason is that we reached our points limit and unlike other clubs we stick to the limit. Couple of players from tiggers, one from subi and another from WP. It is not abt cash it is abt points even tho’ we have a concession.
stt apparently the eagles have made a deal with the devil which includes fringe benefits including cast off players, shared sponsors blah blah.i don’t think demon supporters have any credibility to speak on this issue..

had a look at our senior list in the footy budget which seems more up to date then the club’s website.we have 53 one point players and 10 players who are worth 58 points which seems to add up to about 111 points .i t is just under the 120 cap i think we have.as points caps vary from year to year we need to be careful in recruiting and may need to review who is worth keeping or free up points for a better import next year.we did win the reserves premiership last year so we need to develop those who have some talent.thanks grump for cleaning up the mess that was starting to pollute this topic.

[quote=“Factor opinion post=202584”]2021 WAFL Rules & Regulations rule 2.8 gives EPFC 125 cumulative player points and up to 45 protected players. This is the same as 2020.

It was obviously my incorrect understanding that we had reached a limit. Also it was made clear at the AGM that we had tried but for one reason or another not got anyone until the fella from Subi came on board. Thx Factor
interesting side selected.simpson and wright both playing ressies.it will put pressure on ajang and sebit to perform.midfield looks alright but backline is short with not many inuries of note is this our best side?.we rarely start with a win or with our best team playing in round one so i am not sure winning or losing will tell us much..
Ok lets start with the futures, Subiaco are by the length of the straight, their last three games resulted in wins of over 80 points so to lose by 23 was a good start. It was a good game with the EP boys giving a great account of themselves with the best players on the WAFL site being a fair reflection of the battle. There was one play that did stand out for me and that was a slight fella from EP standing in-front of an oncoming Subi ruckman of some size (abt 2*) completing the tackle and taking the subi lad to the ground, it was courageous but ended up with the EP leaving ground with a sore shoulder. Great stuff from both players.
The colts game resulted in an all the way win from EP against a Subi side that never gave in but just could not match the EP boys in an all over the ground performance. In looking at the WAFL site it would appear that the subi coach was a bit annoyed only giving 2 players a mention which I do not reckon gives them the credit for their efforts. Yes they were beaten but there were players who gave it their all but just could not match the EP players. Jye Amiss showed the way early with his 5.1 at FF with the rest of the forwards contributing. It was great watching two highly rated players Erasmus (S) and Regan (EP) go abt their games, both had an impact and are worthy of their ratings. For me Peak, Dittmar and Harbour were the better players with each showing they can do the graft but do the skilled stuff as well.
The reserves game was one of those games that has typified EP/S reserves game for a while now. One side goes out to a lead that look like a winning one but the opposition fight back with the result being a close one. I do know much abt Subi’s ressies but the EP side 8 colts players making their next level debut, they all had creditable contributions against a sometimes robust Subi side. In the firt quarter my heart sank but rebounded at the sight of another Subi player emanating Liam Ryan, Jonny Narkle looked like he was going to be the next … but thankfully he seemed to run out of puff, worth a watch tho’. The second half just saw the EP players dig in and get back even at th 3rd and run out winners by the final siren, Better players for us were Hayden (who should get a league call up) Abbott (who is like a good wine he just keeps giving) a player who especially in the second half just showed he can play against bigger bodies and has the best name Spider Lockitt.
I cannot provide much commentary abt the league game, I had to leave after the first quarter but at least i saw the EP boys play well and showed what I hoped would carry them through the whole game but it would seem that one quater does not win games.
