Tasmania to have NBL team

Been confirmed by Larry Kestelman that Tasmania will have it’s own NBL team from the twenty 21/ twenty 22 season. This follows on from a landmark agreement between the Tasmanian Government and the NBL. Kestelman and the Tasmanian premier made the announcement today. The new Tasmanian team will play the majority of its home games in Hobart and also play games in the north of the state each year. And also expected to create a thousand jobs. Apparently the Tasmanian Government will become the sponsor of the new team. With the Tasmanian taxpayer having a never never ending supply of money the Tasmanian government can draw on, the new team obviously will not have money issues.

Remember the Hobart Tassie Devels having quiet a competitive side in the early 1990’s.Was Carl Brutons destination after he left the Wildcats. From memory he took a few Wildcats players with him.
Best of luck with the new franchise down in Tassie.Just hope they have the right people running the new basketball team. The imports are so important in the NBL.

Yep spot on GTR Cal bruton did end up at the Hobart Tassie Devils after the Perth Wildcats replaced him with Murray Arnold as coach.
Some other players I most remember at the HTD from the late 80s, early 90s were-
Wayne “Big Mac” MacDaniel, “Jumping” Joe Hurst & the feisty guard Gordie McLeod.

It’s got to be the Tassie Devils again but gotta feeling they’ll come up with something lame or pathetic.

I read somewhere those behind the proposed new TAS afl team have taken the Tasmanian Devils name now.

Tassie did have a team called the Southern Huskies playing in the NZNBL recently.

Got to be Tasmanian Tigers then. Melbourne dropped the tiger moniker a few years ago so hopefully they have that registered.

Thats the name of their State cricket team (Sheffield Shield & ODD)

the Viccos are talking to Tasmania in prep for the next part of the process - pretty obvious there’ll be expansion sooner rather than later
wonder if the famous Isle with a T jumper will return once more ???

and it won’t be good for the two big State leagues starting yet another one possibly two will drain what players remain

Surely 18 teams has to be the limit mate there isnt enough talent now to sustain 18 teams.
Tassie should come in and one of those piss weak handout merchant VIC sides (NM, StK, Melb, Foots) should come out.

that’s right but they’ve long committed to a Tasmanian side it’s only when now
an NT side is behind that one , it’ll spell the end of State leagues beacause reserves sides will be compiled over there
