Where do you start with this doomed campaign. The final blow was the dropping of Renshaw even though he was the only batsman who had a clue about playing on these pitches. Green Inglis and David had no idea and Maxwell and Stoinis are past their use by dates. The bowling was completely impotent, only 4 wickets in the last 40 overs of the tournament. To fly Smith to Sri Lanka then leave him out of an elimination final was baffling but consistent with the selection decisions in this tournament. The truth is that the Squad and management approached this event with a half arsed, couldnt care less, sheāll be right on the night attitude and they copped the early exit that they richly deserved
I got the impression if they Lost last night, they were Out!
But apparently not,if Ireland beat Zimbabwe.
Of course,if they lose to Oman, they really do Deserve to pack their bags early.
Very slim chance. Zimbabwe would have to lose to both Ireland and Sri Lanka and Australia would have to smash Oman to get their run rate ahead of the Africans. Not going to happen
I didnāt watch the Lankans innings , but by the sounds of it they did it very easily.
And letās face it their fielding was outstanding. A couple of superb catches. Many runs saved on the boundary.
Incomprehensible that our only in form batsman, Renshaw was left out. I would have thought either Green or Maxwell should have gone out.
To add insult to injury, they didnāt even bowl Green. Very strange.
The entire campaign , from selection to playing games, has been very suspect.
A third class bowling attack was never going to work.
Surely this a blessing in disguiseā¦might mean some decisions are forced both on and off the parkā¦but then again itās T20ā¦a format that requires a specialized skill set, opposite to test cricketā¦can only think SA are decent at bothā¦the rest either better at one, then the otherā¦or middling at bothā¦
I know which one I want Aust to focus onā¦and it aint T20.
All over red rover. Early departure for the boys. Rain killed the Zimmers and Ireland game. Zimmer qualify.
Well done.
Agree.
Canāt see it on Free to Air anyway,so itās pretty hard to get excited about,ā¦
Australian coach Andrew McDonald has hit back at critics of their disastrous Twenty20 World Cup campaign as he backed the bulk of this current squad to keep their spots.
McDonaldās side failed to progress out of the group stage at a World Cup for the first time since 2009, on the back of heavy losses to Sri Lanka and minnows Zimbabwe.
Ahead of their dead rubber against Oman, McDonald said he still backs the majority of this current side to perform in upcoming tournaments with the Olympics just two years away.
This Victorian flog is why thereāll be no re-build coming anytime soon
Another notch on the gun of the Zimmas tonight.
Undefeated so far.
The kid Brian Bennett can bat a bit. Three NO knocks from three. Impressive.
Wonder how far they can go. Look very disciplined group.
Noone is going to be underestimating them from now on for sure. Their bowling attack is not too shabby either led by that giant named Blessing!
I liik forward to seeing how they go with extra pressure.
Did you see their skipper pull the young fella up when going to shake hands?
Looks like a skipper with no frills. Stick to the code of conduct we have.
to be honest AM I have not really watched this tournament - I have Prime but T20 while exciting isnāt my Favorite game.
I wonder if ACB realises that the gimmicks they bring in like power plays, designated batters and the likes, while it adds to the broadcasting fun it doesnāt make it a level playing field for the Aussie team when they play under different rules in world cup formats
@winning I have basically only been tuning into the Aussie games when the times suit.
But you are right about different rules here. And to make it worse, most play in various other T20 comps around the World.
But, sadly it is the money spinner for most struggling Countries.
I will watch the first inning of the Aussies game tonight.
It seems to be the main(as opposed to major)money spinner for the Cashstrapped Cricket Australia.
And squeeze out a bit more coin, they want to put wholesale changes to BBL.
Sri Lanka committing Hari Kari against the Poms.
Very ordinary batting.
Just a smidgeon over 7 an over and they have gone about it like the game had to be won yesterday.
India, done and dusted.![]()
.
Saffies will be happy, can they keep their nerves intact from here in.
India are not yet ādone and dustedā!
Theyāre not,but as Dunny mentioned this morning, another Loss here,ā¦
India will have to beat the WIndies and Zimbabwe to ensure their spot in the semi.
The two sides that Australia lost to in the preliminary rounds, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe have been beaten convincingly in both their super 8 games which indicates to me how poor and unprepared Australia were for this tournament. Probably dodged some more embarrassment by not qualifying. The Saffers look really motivated to make up for their loss in the last final and India and the rest will have their work cut out beating them
