How would people rate the quality of the current Melbourne and Sydney racecallers Matt Hill and Daren Flindell?
Both are ordinary and not a patch on the likes of John Tapp, Ian Craig, Bill Collins, Greg Miles, Bryan Martin from the past not too mention our very own former racecallers in the West Max Simmonds, Trevor Jenkins, Stuart Shenton, George Grljusich & John Hunt. Darrenn McAullay is the best in the country by a mile.
They are ok but not brilliant. I get the feeling he Sydney bloke gets up for the group races but on a Wed and lesser Sats he is thinking he’d rather be back in honkers. Matt Hill calls a pretty good race I reckon. Gotta say there are better around.
DMac far from best in country. Why does he start every race with “they’re racing as well”. As well as what?
In my opinion they are the worst Sydney and Melbourne racecallers I have ever heard by the length of the straight 6 at Flemington.
Agree re Flindell, he sounds thoroughly bored to me most of the time. Bit harsh on Hill I reckon. Maybe bring back Hilton Donaldson from retirement. At least we aren’t getting Bailey who just makes mistake after mistake, although saying that he has stuck at it and made a bit of a comeback since declaring a horse the winner of the Slipper a few years ago only to have Belle De Jour come over the top. For mine I like some of the trots callers - could Milecki call the races maybe and I like Richard Bell more than DMac.

stt I was watching a race that Matt Hill was calling where he managed to not call the winner of the race for the entire 400 metres of the straight until the winning post.

The SA race caller is the best by some way.. Macaullay is a long way off.

Hilton Donaldson didnt retire voluntarily…he was pissed on the job one too many times!
Yes I know and enjoy those calls on youtube from time to time.
