That was disappointing, but the game sums up Swans’ game style and lack of foresight that has plagued the entire season. For example, Stephens secures the ball between wing and half forward and runs - no one between he and the goals. Kohlmann has dragged his opponent to the pocket; good move - an open goal. However, Stephens kicks to Kohlmann - who is not expecting it, and it’s marked by the full back. Utterly dumb football - Jesus, that’s Wes Lambie like, and reflects the one trick pony style when Harding was coach. I am surprised that Perth weren’t aware of the fact before the match that Swans look for ONE player when going forward, but after half time had three on Kohlmann and, I think, he did not get another touch. But if three Perth defenders are on Kohlmann, what are the two free Swans forwards doing? Perth worked harder, got to the drop of the ball, and we didn’t. The only positive was that we played the game out and arguably had the better of Perth in the last quarter, but without scoreboard pressure Perth did not need to do much to hold back the challenge. Kane tried hard, and Erceg and Bright improved in the second half, but Kelly was very poor. His pace is now non-existent.
SH it was evident to some of us in the pre season games we were not up to the standard we should expect.
2025 has been a shit show from pre season to now whether that be form, skills, fitness, injuries, disruptions etc etc.
I get the feeling due to the injury crisis experienced so far the football side of things (players, coaches, selectors, medical) have been given an out by the club!
But as I posted weeks ago who has actually improved from last year…?
I could count maybe 3 or 4 at best the rest have either stagnated or gone backwards.
And someone has to accept responsibility for that!
Half the season is done now and if there isnt a marked improvement in form, skills, attitude, tactics etc then changes need to be made.
We cant just sit on our hands like it seems happened over the last pre season!!!
BH, I agree. Take out those we have lost and it means that McLachlan, Clarke, Lynch and Chalcraft have more attention on them from the opposition and less influence on the game. While these good players struggle compared to last year, others like Chipper, Kelly, and even Cipro - contributors in good teams - have given little this year (and I know that some in this group have been injured). Only Hilton and Watson in my opinion have improved, especially the later. But, as you say, there is something else going on at the club. GM walking when told that Howard is being groomed as a replacement FF with Watson’s departure, paying a transfer fee for Coniglio who will not make the league team, not chasing Hughes or GB ‘because we have enough defenders’ - seriously? Starts at the top…saw Cummings at the club Saturday…we need someone new at the top.
The current regime seem quite happy with the league team making finals every 3 or 4 years. Time for a clean out of the footy department. This has been a train wreck of a season
The coach will invite everyone for a pow wow at Mandoon Estate and after a few reds and lobster mornays everyone will be high fiving and the status quo won’t change.
