Both teams will be desperate to win this and not be the only side without a win after 3 rounds. From Swans point of view there are some interesting selection dilemmas. Some of the performances by players in the reserves should be rewarded, Ben Hewitt, Cartwright, Harvey to name just a few would be banging the door down. If we pick the right team I think we will have a pace advantage over the Falcons which hopefully we can exploit. West Perth will be motivated because it is Keitels 200th so Swans need to be switched on from the start. In the corresponding game last year our players strolled on the ground expecting an easy victory and got belted.
Speaking of Keitel I often wonder why he never made it to an AFL list. I’ve seen players with a lot less ability than him running around at the higher level
Well Keitel and his family, who apparently had family Garlic muncher connections, probably shot themselves in the foot as far as having his AFL aspirations materialize. They used the Eagles alignment partnership as an excuse to leave a club that had nurtured him through his whole junior career, which resulted in a tug of war, which went through WAFL mediation.
Tom Gorter, who had half Keitels ability, got rookie listed during the alignment, and I’ve got no doubt he would’ve been offered a contract if he stayed and trained and played under the tutelage of the Eagle coaching panel who had full control of the club.
Didn’t Keitel get a trial with WCE along side Dixon, Joyce and Strnadica a few years back?….did nothing in the preseason scratchie, whilst Dixon kicked a couple, and got the nod….2022 from memory. Would of thought his lack of versatility counted against him playing at AFL level….but he has been an exceptional WAFL player, with a few Naylor’s on his CV..
He’s a lot better than Dixon,I think Keitels age probably counted against him at that stage, and I reckon he would’ve been odds on at the very least,to score a rookie contract in that 2014-18 period we had the alignment.
Very little change from last week. Collins comes in, Doc goes out. Ernst will probably come out of defence to support Impey in the ruck with Collins slotting into the back line. Cartwright not named in either league or reserves after his 6 goal game last week
Dixon will probably get another AFL lifeline at Tassie mate…..kicks goals where ever he plays…..EF, Southport and now Tassie ….bit of a nomad, big reason why EF ended their drought in 23…..but agree…on pure ability and goals scored, Keitel definitely edges him….but versatility wise, Dixon has more strings to his bow than Keitel.
So I see you’ve got another WAFLW curtain raiser before the league match with the reserves once again kicking the dew off the grass at U/9’s time. How is Nathan Ireland’s ankle? I guess you wouldn’t know your club is too ignorant to put up an injury list.
Yep, very frustrating. Noone at the club seems to think it is important to keep members and supporters informed about injuries. We have no idea when crucial players like Kohlmann, Chalcraft and Rosini may return
Very disappointing first half today. For a home game in front of reasonable crowd swans were flat. There skills both hand and foot were way off. No real cohesion in the forward line put it high in the air and hope. The back line worked together most of the game Collins Erceg cleared well. Second half a lot better some of the on ballers and wings got it out of the center. Against a good side in think we would of been in trouble.
Poor game of footy. Happy with the win but honestly some of the passages of football in the first half were abysmal. West Perth were far more precise with their kicking and handball and Swans were very lucky that they were wasteful in front of goal in the first quarter and a half. A 21 point deficit could have easily been 41 had they kicked straight. Suddenly just before half time, Swans started playing some more direct football which gave the forwards a chance. The 2nd half was pretty much a tug of war until the 15 minute mark of the last Quarter when the Falcons ran out of steam.
Some positives
Great to see Will Collins back in defence, he exudes an air of assurance that gives the rest of the guys more confidence
Provest followed up his 4 goals last week with a lively display when he was given a chance to lead up
Impey is definitely worth persisting with even though he was beaten on the day
Hinchcliffe was very busy in the midfield
Reidy played his best game for a while, that snap goal from the forward pocket in the 3rd, gave Swans a huge lift
Great to see Pina and Trew both playing well after season ending injuries last year
First time I have seen young Steed in action, hes a good un
Like other games Swans were handball happy at various stages when a kick mark style may have kept control of the ball better. The handball game looks great when they are running over the top of the opposition but more often than not it puts the running players under pressure when the disposal is slightly off which happened countless times today.
Anyway I will enjoy the victory as there may not be that many unless there is significant improvement
Not a high standard game by any means. Defence’s ability to get on top of their opponents meant we dried up their scoring opportunities – which is good, because Kytell looked like he was going to have a field day early. Collins and Watson were outstanding, and their standard made Taylor, Stephens etc. lift.
I did not see Impey play last week, and I was disappointed with his first half after talk of his good game last week. But his second half yesterday, and especially the last 40 minutes was pretty-good. His tap work is unusually accurate, but those around him now have to take advantage of it.
The umpires haven’t had a good week, and Trew bashed from opening bounce to the final whistle without receiving a single fee hasn’t improved my opinion of umpiring standards.
Where are Cartwright and Lynch? Rumbles of player discontent.
I only watched a bit of the first quarter, almost unwatchable by Swans. Chaotic style of football. But a wins a win. What’s with the ABBA Mamma Mia music breaking out after a goal? Expect that and Village People music at Joondy but Basso?
They seem to be sticking with WAFLW playing before the League Game, instead of playing the WAFLW and Rogers Cup on the Sunday or Saturday,if applicable?
yes its annoying, as is the screeching woman at the breaks who prevents people from listening to what the coach has to say. Sure run the competitions for the kids but this is only for a small time but she just goes on from siren to siren
