The Sunday Times have done it again. What a load of rubbish, the ST sports pages are a great tradition for any sports nut in WA who hangs out to see the back pages and flick through straight to their teams match report and results, ladders etc… and to check out other sports, for me like racing, basketball, F1 etc…
Now these arrogant bastards have done away with sport on the back pages and given us a liftout full of advertising and the sports don’t follow the traditional order, seems to now be in reverse…or just plain all over the shop. It is dominated by advertising which is obviously their motive and I am quite sure there was no advertising in the sports pages previously. The other thing i hate about lift outs is finding the farken thing!!
I am a subscriber to the Sunday Times, the only paper i subscribe to and as far as I am concerned they can bash it where the sun don’t shine. Time for another Sunday paper i say, bring back the Sunday Independent!!
And what has now replaced Sport on the back pages?? Fashion!
DD to pick up & read the Sunday Times used to be a tradition when I was a kid in the 80’s & 90’s with the National Scoreboard page with footy results from all over Australia etc but has quickly gone downhill over the last 20 years or so that now I rarely even bother with it anymore ..now its full of bullsh!t advertising & very little quality content!
BH, Rupert owns the ST and he recently tried to offload it to The West but I think the competition watchdog rejected it. Not 100% on that. Clearly the trend is towards electronic and perhaps profits are declining but fark me talk about shooting yourself in the foot. They can bash it, i will be writing to them and telling them to shove it if they don’t revert back to the old way which was probably the No 1 reason why buyers bought the bloody thing!
I suspect it is the format they use in their eastern states papers. We have more wealth in this state than the rest of the country combined, surely some filthy rich West Aussie can afford it?
What!!?
People still read that excuse for a newspaper? Surely not?
20 or so years ago it was a good product and worth buying. When I was younger, Sunday wasn’t Sunday without the Times.
How times have changed for the worse.
Nowadays it’s deteriorated to the point of silliness and has no quality whatsoever. I would not look at it even if I was given one.
i must agree what a shambolic edition. i havent purchased the sundaytimes for a while and i sense that will be a more regular thing. i was baffled by what they put together and what they considered newsworthy items.
very tired newspaper simply because they have no competition and therefore they get lazy and cocky. i agree keep sport on the back pages and have a national scoreboard so we arent flicking everywhere to find results. today was a real mess.
Take it no one liked the Super Footy liftout from 3-4 years ago either?
If you don’t like the Sunday Times and some on here son’t like the West Australian and others don’t like 6PR or 720 then how are you getting your news fix?
Was [color=#ff0000]looking forward to seeing the traditional AFL headline this morning, especially as FREO won and what do I find?? Ring all apart from adverts and Rhianna. (she is a hot piece by they way) but frigg me dead - a lift out??
The kids won’t sift through the shite to find a sport lift out when they sometimes turn the paper over and skim some headlines which gets them interested a little bit at least and up to date.
And the lift was all over the shop like a mad womens shite, different fonts, different layouts of screboards and alot less detail.
What’s more surprising is that people still actually buy the Sunday times its been crap for about ten years now, it’s circulation has collapsed and is losing money hand over fist, I give it about another five years and it will be gone, the only paper worth buying on the weekend is Saturday west, it’s the only paper in Australia that has actually increased its circulation.

Good paper or bad, I like to sit with a cup o coffee on a Sunday morning and read bits. I read the sports, letters to the ed, a couple of the opinion pieces and crosswords - the rest of the news is a week old anyway. I’ll give them a month to find out that their experiment is a disaster and if it is the same shambles as this weekend, then I’ll be cancelling. I really do wonder how they and the West can carry on about being WA’s #1 paper - where the hell is their competition??? I think if an independent corp started up a Sunday paper in competition, they’d be surprised at the level of support they’d get.
I get the Saturday west and weekend Aussie on Saturday morning that keeps me going all weekend, as for stats for games and game reviews better to just jump on the net…
Newspapers are dead, long live the trees, but seriously I couldnt even find the Sport Lift Out in the Coffee Shop for breakfast this morning what a bummer
Opened up the Sunday Times this morning and no sport lift out at all. Not sure if others had the same experience.
Sunday Times WAFL section of their website not updated either. Apparently no WAFL games were played yesterday according to the Sunday Times website. Pathetic.
I cancelled my subscription after posting this topic and the arrogant bastards didn’t even care to respond to my reasons why. I suggest everyone just stops buying it, it is the only way they will take any notice.
