Subi v WCER

I see the game has been moved to East Freo Oval kicking off at 12:10 due to the poor state of Leederville. These AFL reserve teams due get a bit precious about their players as if it was good enough for Subi and Claremont to tough it out the other week if should be ok for the WanCERs and FART as well.

Apparently wet conditions forecasted for the footy on game day with a prediction of 10 mms. From what I hear, probably a good idea moving this match to East Fremantle Oval. Then the question needs asking why play footy at Leederville at all if the surface is not up to scratch?
That aside, hoping Subiaco prevail in this match and can bag the 4 points.

The WAFC apparently have Leederville as the preferred GF venue so I dont think any games will be played there and training moved as well for the rest of the season, so the ground will get 8 or 9 weeks with no use to get it up to scratch. Vincent Council are supposedly keen to host it and do what they can to help get the surface up, but we need some dry fine weather pretty soon or it wont happen.

Bloke on wafl world reckons the council want subi and East Perth out of leederville. Hope no truth in that.

That would be of no surprise… Heard a story years ago (and I’m sure others also heard) there was strong rumblings from the vincent town council on that very subject.

No Braut, Bailey Matera or Borchet. Fielding a full strength team these days is just about impossible. With everyone who is missing, I don’t think this team will cause too many problems for any other team except WCER. Hopefully Greg Clark does the right thing and pretends he pings his hammy during the warm up. Subi by 24 points.

Great to see Maxy back, not surprised Braut is having a rest, I dont think he’s been near 100% the last few games, give him a decent rest and ready for a big pre season and a 2023. Matera Jnr has done little so lets someone else have a run. Borch might just be a rest or Covid? Good to see South get some more time and also Morgan.
5 games left including this one and 3 are winnable v WCER, Perth & maybe EP. cant see us getting anywhere near SF & Joondy.
Greg Clark is listed as an emergency for the toasters, what does he have to do to get a game with that insipid mob!!

No Delahunty… have we seen the last of the great man?

Geez what a rabble wc are, they are not even trying. Lucky we are playing them any other team would kill us. We are a good reserves side at best. Unfortunately I think we are in for a long stint in the bottom half of the ladder. We probably have 10 players up to league standard, we need about 8-10 very good recruits and I doubt that is going to happen. There is actually more seagulls here than people!

The arrogance of this club is laughable. Get a real coach for starters. They have done a good job in recent years in developing our juniors, but what’s the point, all the good ones get snapped up by the afl clubs. Get some real players. Fuck wasting time and money on this shit been there done that in the late 70s early 80’s. I don’t want or expect to win it every year but at least be competitive every year like sydney and geelong etc

Was a funny old day. Shark Park in reasonable nick at least. Kitch fighting Nelson probably the highlight. Playing west coast is pretty wierd. Plenty of subi people in the Eagle’s camp. Horse, nikoski and Tim Gepp. It was more like a training run than a game a times.

Giro our best perhaps. savigni and Henderson going well. The younger hickmont covered the ground nicely. Gus added a bit up front.

I thought we would have lost to any other team, except perhaps Perth. Greg Clarke I thought was best on ground in the second half.

Putty did a collar bone, I think.

Agree JL. There was a fair bit of niggle which was a bit strange considering the lowly positions of both clubs on the ladder. I think Clinch must have done something to Nelson very early on as there was some pushing and shoving before Nelson came off and changed his jumper. Then Kitch got into a running battle with Nelson who by then was the angriest man of the planet.

Anyway, I’ll take any win these days. I thought our backs did a good job overall which only sees Heal, Stainsby and Rohde down there from last years GF team. Savigne, Henderson are developing nicely and I thought our transition from back to forward was pretty good for most of the game. I also noticed they’re playing Harris as a defender which I’m not sure is a good move as it seems like we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul given he’s been a driving force in the midfield up until now and we’re a bit thin through the middle.

Giro was outstanding again, Max flashed in, Kitch good, the Hickmott’s continue to grow but I did notice we dropped off a bit after losing Putt to an AC joint. Sokol provided a target and Matera an opportunist. For next year we need a ruck and probably another key forward. Where they’re going to come from is anyone’s guess but if we’re going to go back up to the top of the shit heap then we’ll have to recruit as DG said earlier.

Nice summary BC. I vote we push our zone as far as it will go. Keep recruiting to a minimum. See how far we can go.

Im prepared to give up after 1 year and go with Dg’s plan.

Good first half particularly the 2nd qtr where we dominated, but losing Putt was a turning point, he was giving our mids a fair share of the footy and also had a physical presence, once he went off, the game turned around and their big contingent of Afl players, particularly Clark took over. Just as well we had that big 1/2 time lead as our second half was a shocker. Dela has a broken finger/hand so not sure he’ll be back, so we don’t have a ruckman that can at least compete at league level, if Putt’s done a collar bone he’s gone for the season, South is still way to lightly framed to compete and Matthews is a work in progress, so that leaves Eaton as an option if Dela cant come back, he has been starved of opportunities, has a huge leap and a strong body so at least can compete at league level.
DG mentioned we need a heap of recruits to fill the gaps. Mayo will be the key forward we need if his knees can hold up, we will need a key back as Locks wont be back until the 2nd half of next year, if at all. Another mid of Giro’s quality would be nice and of course a quality ruckman from the VFL or SANFL to mentor the young rucks who are still a few years off being WAFL ready, if the 2 big EF Rucks dont carry on at AFL, I cant see all three getting regular runs at the Sharks with Goddard doing such a good job, so maybe one of them might be looking elsewhere. Morgan was good with 21 disposals, Snadden is starting to put together some decent games, Henderson and Savigni are good prospects down back, but we really need 1 or 2 good mids, a key back and a ruckman or we will be holidaying in September for a few years to come.

I assume next weeks game v the Ferals will also be relocated. Cant see us getting over EP without a ruckman, maybe a chance v Perth but thats it for the season I think.

SS, BC, DG, what’s your feeling about Golding, Vanirsen, Patterson? Will they become good or very good wafl mids in the next few years. Do we need to recruit beyond them?

JL. I think all 3 are worth persevering with given their age. Golding is the oldest of the trio at 21 so there’s plenty of upside given the opportunity. I remember Chris Phelan struggled when he first started in the middle and plenty were calling for him to be dropped including me and we know how he grew into becoming a very good player. It could be worthwhile playing one or two of the three as a small forward or on a wing initially so they’re not thrown into the midfield deep end but there’s plenty to work with imo.

Agree BC, but I think we should also chase another Giro type pacy mid given Kitch and marsh are in their 30’s, plus all the guys mentioned aren’t super pacy. I also think Ash is a player who should be looked at, the games he played on the wing I thought were pretty good. They played Harris off half back a bit yesterday and I think that has some merit, he has pace and good disposal and can break the lines. If we can get everyone back on the paddock consistently plus a couple of good recruits to fill the key back and ruck, we will be at least challenging for a place in the 5.

JL those young guys need to be built up slowly and train and play along side lots of classy mature players. For example in boxing if you train and spar with classy fighters that’s what you will become. If you train and spar with mediocre, well that’s what you will be. Of course there are always exceptions, but those are the ones who get snapped up by the afl clubs.
SS I wouldn’t be pinning our hopes on Mayo, if he does recover he needs to be eased back after the horror run he has been through. He needs to be our 4th or 5th best forward and get the oppositions 4th or 5th best defender

We need a real coach with clout. Someone like a Germo or a Schoey. enough of pissing about with a cheap option ex umpire strategy type of guy

Then we should be chasing Horse!!
