The boys from Bogandean are coming to town and I must say, I’m not overly optimistic we can get the business done.
When you compare our current team to even the one from last year, there’s some gaping holes. Our once reliable backline is nothing like it was with Heal retired, Lockyer and Dewar injured, Stainsby travelling leaving only Rohde and Savigni to anchor our defence.
Our forwards missing Sokol through injury, Borchet out of form and playing in defence, Kentfield drafted and only Mayo flying the flag surrounded by makeshift smalls.
Likewise our mids are missing Giro, Zac Clarke, Max Walters, Tholstrup, Michael Braut although the arrival of Greg Clark and Foley is on the plus side.
There are a few guys playing seniors who are solid ressies standard at best. I think we all know who they are but it would be disrespectful to name them. There was a great deal of continuity in our playing group during the successful years but that’s certainly not the case any more.
It’s time to bite the bullet and start bringing through more younger players like Lachlan O’Keefe, give “the horse and cart driver” Wagenknecht some more seniors game time, likewise Franceschini and also Judd Kelman instead of guys who have been around in the ressies for a while but not really hitting the mark in the league. They’re just my thoughts but would be interested in the opinions of others.
Not sure you will like my opinion BC but …
We are looking like wooden spooners atm
Unlike previous years we have no depth, our reserves side is filled with ex pfl players who are reserve standard footballers at best. All of our really good colts have been drafted or moved to other clubs eg wills to perth.
Clark is a very good player in a good side and a good player in a poor side. Foley I rate the same as ainsworth-good colts level players average league players at best.
Listening to wardmans pre match spin before the ferals match, the bloke is delusional-we are the worst team in the comp atm. The sooner we fuck him and his band of merry nobodies off the better. I’m closer to fucking this caper off than ever and I was there through the late 70’s early 80’s. Just don’t like the direction we are headed
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said DG. I’m not a huge fan of Wardman either but in saying that, I’m not at training or in the rooms during a game so it could be he’s very good and has a great rapport with the players but it would surprise me if that was the case.
Whilst I can’t fault our work rate and application, our skill level has certainly dropped off over the last couple of years and I don’t think we have the same pursuit of excellence that was so prominent during out dominant period.
I also don’t think we’re at next level fitness compared to other teams and would like the whole footy department from coaches, S&C, sports science, player development, recruiting and so on to go under the microscope at years end.
It looks like a couple of the youngsters might get a look in. I hope so.

other than wills what other colts have left to
other clubs? The reserves is well stocked with past colts learning their trade is it not? Development? We want good players drafted.
the injury list is significant also is it not? I’m sure the club is not happy with where it is at but testament to the players and coaches outside of the east freo game they have been in every game this year but have lacked connection and ability to finish in a developing side.
maybe if it’s that bad you might be better to fuck off like you say and find some joy elsewhere.
Skilful I am more inclined to agree with you than with DG. We can’t dominate all the time, anyway. For the sake of footy in Wa we should put as much work into our zone as we can and try to get better. We can’t rely on Frankston and Sandringham to get us out of the mire. That said, DG should be as negative as he wants to be.
No doubt can be as negative as he/she likes from what I have seen they always have. Nothing is good enough.
from the outside looking it in it looks like the club has and is investing in zone and it is starting to show results with colts and reserves consistently competitive and players a getting drafted regularly and playing afl footy relatively quickly so club must be doing somethings right.
its an even comp and if they get on a roll who knows, will need some luck but maybe supporters should get behind them instead of sniping.
listening to the coaches and players on sportfm lately the amount of time and effort that coaches and players put in for relatively little reward financially in the wafl maybe we should support and commend them instead of always saying how bad they are and that their “nobodies” anyway just my opinion.
I think it’s healthy to have a robust discussion between supporters who are passionate about the club. I don’t think anyone can criticise the endeavour of the playing group as they definitely don’t leave anything on the park and have a real crack each week but I think skills and decision making is letting us down.
That can be rectified but it comes down to the coaching staff and leadership group to drive improvements. I’m not sure that’s happening as a matter of course, but will gladly be corrected if someone in the inner sanctum has a different view.
Wills shared the Jack Clark medal last year and Subi let him go.
Thanks for that much appreciated as he didn’t look out of place on debut.
But it was a puzzling decision, to me at least.
Newick was another you let go.
Be interested in your thoughts about him as well.
He looks to have some promise I think.
Demons Forever, I don’t know the intimate details about how that happened. I know you guys got Pelletier a few years ago in similar circumstances so something not quite right, although I think perth promised him the world and he was just a good reserves Player in the end. Newick left subi year earlier after returning to his first senior pre season in less than good shape so may have just wanted a fresh start. Speaking to one of the dads on the outer earlier in the year wills basically never even got to senior pre season as he had walked to Perth and just text the footy manager to say he was going to Perth? Not sure how true but maybe better off without that sort of character? Good luck to him. Perhaps they thought the chances of a league game maybe easier at Perth too?
subis till have lots of local developed talent so we just have to focus on them and hope they grow into good league players.
Thanks SH.
Pelletier never delivered on his perceived promise.
Must have had some, I think he captained your Colts side.
As for Wills must have been something grating with the coaching staff maybe.
I think he has some promise, but it will be up to us to develop him.
My judgement on Newick is reserved.
I’m not sure he’s as good as Wills, but maybe he will add some depth.
BTW I’m not sure at full strength our midfield will be that easy to break into.
Thanks again for your input.
What I heard was Subi left Wills off it’s protected 40 list so not sure if Riley initiated contact with Perth or vice versa but we got him for nothing. Looks to be a natural footballer. Had a delayed start due to a shoulder injury. I think only played two reserves games prior to last weeks league debut.
Also was told his old man played a few games for Perth back in the day, not that I recall.
Take it how you want sh but the facts remain-
We are the worst side in the comp atm and are looking like wooden spooners.
I was actually talking about wills but you might as well add page, woodley and newick.
We have no depth, ferals have almost 20 out, please enlighten me where they sit on the ladder atm oh delusional one?
The ressies are also well stocked with pfl players.
I spend my money and precious time to watch my team win, not to see how many players get drafted, I couldn’t give a fuck about the Australian netball league.
We were competitive in most games in 1982 also, I’ll remind you how many games we won that year - 1. We have played well in one game vs peel, lucky to beat joondy as their goal kicking was well off and they would have killed us if more accurate.
We are the richest club in the league by far and we have a fucking umpire who has never played a league game as head coach and his nobody mates as assistants. Do you think that wardman and co are the best out there? As BC said, no pursuit of excellence anymore, in all departments.
All I expect as a long term supporter is that we challenge for the top 5 every year, not dominate and win it all the time, that’s no good for anyone.
Finished 2nd last year pretty sure I wasn’t negative at all but look at us now, premier planning to replace what we lost, build depth and remain in the hunt…said no one ever. On that note how is the ruckman hunting going or are we still waiting on Zac’s decision??!
Anyway good to see you back here again after so long, I’m glad I dragged you back out but now its probably time for you to give yourself a nice participation medal and fuck your delusional self off back under your fluffy feel good rock
Did I hear on the telegraph wire this match is being covered by the SportFM commentary team? Would be fantastic if they broadcast this game.
Weather might not be as bad as expected?
Apparently 23 degrees is the forecasted maximum temperature and possibly approx 5 mms of rain. Sunday looks like being the worse day of the 3 days.
Yakking with old mate on the telephone wire and heard Subiaco are sitting on a dollar & 80c for the win. Whilst it’s been said Swan Districts are floating on 2 $ & 10c.
