Well done, WA.
Fantastic maiden first class ton by young Teague Wyllie. 2nd youngest shield centurion behind Ponting, and we all know his first class record. Obviously only match one, but great start by a couple of WA youngsters with bat n ball. Morris 5 for, Rocchi with a a couple of wickets, Fanning hanging tough early on and of course Wyllie.
Hopefully Voges keeps faith with the youth and realizes with a shield flag in his coaching CV, promoting youth is the way forward. Exciting times for WA cricket wise…lots of depth in the squad both on the batting and bowling fronts…going to be some tough calls during the season.
Certainly a bright future ahead for WA cricket The bowlers are back at work today and have reduced NSW to 4 -64 at lunch, still 14 behind. Hopefully they can polish off the lower order quickly and perhaps finish the game today.
I’ve been lucky enough to have time to be at the WACA over the last three days and I reckon I can say this game is the arrival of Lance Morris and what a bowler he could be if maintains what he’s shown in this game. His control in this game has been exceptional - and the knock on him until now. Watch out QLD and SA next.
And kudos to the curator. Top pitch. Had something all the way through. More like that please.
I’ve been lucky enough to be able to spend time at the WACA over the past three days and I reckon we’ve seen the arrival of Lance Morris in this game. Bowled with great aggression and control - the two key ingredients - and looked the best bowler out there by a mile. Now needs to back it up against VIC and QLD next but what a great prospect the lad looks.
And massive kudos to the curator. Top pitch. Keep it up and may we please see more like this for the QLD and SA games before the fk gets baked out of it and its turns into Canning Hwy.
good posts, all. Are we defending the Shield and the two limited over competitions this season?

AR yes we (WA) are defending Champions in the-
Sheffield Shield (4 day)
Marsh One Day Cup (50 overs)
BBL (T20-Perth Scorchers)
valuable early season win even though it was a second string NSW - we were in a bit of strife but our young brigade rescued the first innings and it proved to be the difference in the end
good that the bowlers exploited the wicket which was helping the bowlers
BH: thanks for that, mate; it was a good effort last season. I still remember how bias most of the commentary was last season in the Shield final. Even though WA had them coverred, it was a bloody long five days listening to them. I don’t think Julian was on.
Lance Morris bowled with venom.Exited to see Lance bowl live.Made the Nsw batsman very uncomfortable.
Teague Wyllie a teenager from Manduarh scored a debut century on a wicket that gave plenty for the bowlers.Great support from Kelly 47 no.
Gee you can see why the Vics have been hard to beat at home over time with some of the home town umpiring in the Shield match just finished.
It would be fair to say there were 5 or 6 absolutely baffling decisions that all favoured Vic.
Having said that our catching was just as deplorable we must have dropped at least 6 catches including Handscomb who made 280no about 4 times.
Thanks for that summary ‘Bease’. Did we deserve to draw the match?
After playing on a road last week in Victoria, the WA and Queensland boys have had to play on what is obviously a nasty pitch where the pace bowlers have dominated. We have had scores of 211, 115 and 97. WA are currently 4- 45 in what seems a futile pursuit of 194 for victory. Two extremes. Can’t we get a pitch on which there is a even battle between bat and ball? Ideally moving around a bit on the first day, then flattening out and taking spin on the last day. Surely that would be possible?
Definitely will sort out a few techniques that is for sure…Morris is having a stand out season so far.
Great win by the WA team, Hardie and Cartwright leading the way with exceptional knocks, supported by Fanning and Paris. Exciting times for WA cricket, depth in both batting and bowling, plus a lot of youth getting some shield exposure.
Considering Qld were at full strength with their Aust boys playing, whilst WA were missing the likes of Green, Inglis, Agar, Stoinis and both Marsh boys. WA could field two quality shield sides ( old / young)
Bancroft Goodwin
Whiteman Wyllie
S Marsh Fanning
M Marsh Green
Cartwright Philippe
Stoinis Hardie
Inglis Connolly
Agar Richardson
Paris Kelly
Gannon Rochiccioli
Behrendorf Morris
Tye 12th Moody 12th
It didnt even occur to me that QLD were at full strength Freeze but yes they dont have anyone currently in the AUS T20 World Cup squad, actually you can add Short & David to your list of WA teams there as well.
We did well to get the outright win after looking in all sorts of trouble in our 1st innings.
With WA players in Green, M.Marsh, Stoinis, Inglis, Agar, David currently missing in AUS squads and S.Marsh injured it has been a good opportunity to play and get experience in to the likes of Wyllie, Fanning, Phillipe (as a keeper), Rocchiccioli, Morris etc who will be the long term WA players, in fact we have done better since those youngsters came in to the side and the likes of Stoinis, Agar & M.Marsh were missing!!
Hardie will play for Australia at some stage. He has the temperament and technique to succeed at the top level. Good to see Cartwright also getting back to the sort of form that had him selected for test cricket. WA cricket has a real depth to it at the moment the likes of which we have not seen since the Kim Hughes era..
In future years fitting Hardie and Green into the same test side gives real ammunition for the sub-continent allowing you to play one or two recognised quicks and 2 genuine spinners

He might occasionally leak a few runs, but he was uncomfortably quick for the Croweaters yesterday.
Good comeback from Gannon after an average first innings.
The depth in WA cricket at the moment is quite amazing. You could put out 2 competitive teams from the squad they have as freezin was saying earlier. . From the last game they have rested Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris but they have not been missed at all, with Morris, Gannon and Kelly doing the job. Scary for the other states.
