State Labor about to scuttle Foundation Day

Well it sounds like COOKED is set to crash WAFLs last hold out the Foundation WA Day Long weekend as he wants to bring us into line with Eastern States.

If it happens it will be the same weekend as the AFL Kings Birthday long weekend and will pretty much end the WAFLs only AFL free day.

Surely he just moves our Kings (previously Queens birthday) long weekend inline with the eastern states. Trouble is they now want to make WA Day (Foundation Day) a festival family day so they think moving it to Spring will avoid the rain. How many Royal Show’s in recent times have been washed out and that’s first week of October I think.

If he makes it the same as the AFL long weekend thats the WA stand alone day gone, which is its entire advantage.

Also WA Day in June is there for a reason.

It also means the WAFL GF weekend would lose its chance to be on Long Weekend in September if they lose the KB Day/ Royal Show Day that weekend.

Kings Birthday today in Melbourne so cooked wants to move our KB to today and swap our WA Day to the current KB weekend which is Sept 29 and Queensland has there’s the following week Oct 6 so it’s all over the place anyway.

He’s also said he wants to create another public holiday for West Australians. That should be in the latter part of the calendar. We don’t have many public holidays in the second half of the year probably only the Kings.

Wont be the same if its same weekend as other AFL games and once you do that whats the bet local AFL teams will want to play as well.

All the States have slightly different holidays do not see the issue here as we have rolled this way for decades.

Saying the weather is better is ridiculous, but sure give us another day off in November October or so.

Unfortunately Baz cancel culture spelled the end of Foundation Day as we knew it. This is the Woke society we live in today.

Yes good one RednBlack

Sadly I reckon the lefties esp Cooked are hellbent of stuffing the day up, they are using weather as an excuse,I call BS, its all political…zero fs given about the weather for our WA weekend for 100 years and it was a MASSIVE local footy weekend, if you recall in the 60s and 70s at one stage all teams played on the Monday.

Captain Strilings statue mysteriously disappears as well!!!

Disgraceful and the WAFL and WAFC have said SFA so far…

Ta Mate.

I’ll have to watch I don’t post too much over a 24 Hour Period.

Think I posted too often already.

If the Legislation for Public Holidays is Blocked in the Upper House frequently, they might not need to.

If we actually had an opposition party in WA it would help block shit like this

Don’t worry grassy someone’s got you well and truly covered in the Carpet Bombing Stakes

I’m slowing down these days.

Aren’t we all mate.

Some Slower,….or quicker than others.Or in reverse.:upside_down_face:

No numbers in upper house. ALP have a free for all.

Like Crushing local peoples say in what goes up their streets and building crazy race tracks in parks.

They lost their Majority in the Upper House if I remember correctly.

Yes,they only have 16 of 37 and the Greens can hook up with the Libs,Nats,One Nation and the Christian Party when Absolutely Necessary to Block the ALP on Public Holidays.

The ALP might say NOW it was Election Policy, but they never made it a Core Issue for Voters to critically assess,so from that point of view, they had NO Mandate to change Public Holidays, because I’m guessing they’d believe they would lose Seats if they made an Issue out of it!

I’ve no issue with having the extra day in November , but that what it should be an EXTRA day leave our States unique WAFL Day ALONE.

Not sure about the numbers but The Greens will back ALP on this one from what I see…zero care about local community heritage.
