SS final.

SS final, and no DRS. What are CA thinking. Reducing our premier competition to club level.
WA on top at the moment. Vic 6/151. Morris two wickets

bit ridiculous this effort from Victoria - the opener is making Geoff Boycott look like Viv Richards I’ve never seen an opening batsman take 80 overs to score 39

We will know more about the wicket.Once both sides have had a bat.
Wa looking good on day1.
Have a feeling a big score not far away for Hilton Cartwright.

strange innings mate - maybe three batsmen played any shots at all
seemed like a decent start but it’s blown a day
so few runs in a lot of overs geez

A real battle of attrition today with Chandrasinge a model of concentration against a disciplined WA attack. Unfortunately for Morris he had the opener out around the tea break but it was a no ball. They probably would have kept Victoria to around 150 if he had not overstepped. As it is 8-194 still looks under par but the pitch is very slow and if the tail can hang around long enough for Victoria to post up towards 250 then they will feel that they are well and truly in the game. They also have Boland who will be very hard to get away on that pitch. Murphy will also be confident after his break out tour of India so it won’t be easy going for the Warriors

From WA’s point of view, 2 quick wickets tomorrow means a minimum of bonus points to Victoria and a chance to get close to a full days batting. I have a feeling that Cam Bancroft is going to be a crucial player tomorrow because if he gets in he will be as hard to dislodge as Chandrasinge but he will score quicker. If Bancroft can anchor the innings, guys such as Whiteman, Wylie, Phillipe, Hardie and Turner can take on more aggressive roles in the chase for a first innings lead and bonus points

Both teams will be monitoring the bonus points situation carefully tomorrow as there is a significant chance of weather intervention on Day 4 of the match.

Half way through the day, WA are teetering at 3-53. Boland and Sutherland are strangling the Warriors after a solid opening stand of 41. They desperately need to dig in and put together a 50+ partnership or they may end up conceding a first innings lead to the Vics. No runs off the bat for 32 balls now and counting.
This puts the innings of Chandrasinge in a different context. He is doing what every WA batsman has failed to do so far. Occupy the crease.
As I write this Cartwright has been dismissed and WA have lost 4- 12.

It’s been a disappointing response really after a pretty good start - no way can Bancroft go to England with the weakness outside off and it’s time for Wyllie to go back to grade cricket for a long spell
Only 2 or 3 have looked like something Test good so far Boland , Short & Morris

Turner is trying to counter attack. at least he’s got the scoreboard moving.

couple of good catches to get rid of Bancroft and Cartwright.

If the wicket is hard to bat on you will always get a good ball so hitting a few in the middle to score runs is the best way to put some pressure back on the bowling side

The game was very nicely poised when the rains came in. WA 70 runs behind, 6 wickets in hand. Not too sure there will be much play for the rest of the day as the radar looks pretty threatening.

quite possibly no play for tomorrow but I’d say things will only get better for bowlers with that - it’ll be a struggle to get the remaining 20 and any lead is valuable

Overall a very competitive days cricket. WA still have their noses in front thanks to Hardie, Turner and a nice little cameo from Josh Phillipe. I think the WA batsmen would have liked to stay out there for another 5 or 6 overs and erase the deficit but they could have lost a few wickets as well I suppose.

The pitch is obviously not easy to bat on given nobody from either team has made a 50 yet but i think a few of the WA players would be disappointed with the shots they played to get out. Hardie in particular did all the tough work and basically gave it away.

Ashton Turner changed the whole tone of the days play with a calculated counter attack when WA were stuck on 4-50 and were losing the initiative.

I assume they will be starting at 9.30 tomorrow so it is important that Turner and Phillipe re-establish themselves as they will be facing a fresh Boland and Sutherland. Mind you Sutherland is on his last warning for running on the pitch. If he gets another one does that mean he is banned from bowling for the rest of the match or just the innings?

Assuming WA manage to get over the 200 mark they will have beaten Victoria on bonus points but my feeling is that there will be a result in the game anyway so this would be a moot point.

I think Sunday is the dodgy day Southerner. Only 0- 1mm tomorrow and not developing till late afternoon so we will probably get at least 60 overs in. Sunday it is raining in the morning and could be up to 8mm so we could have more significant delays then. Monday is fine.

Maybe then getting that bonus point lead will be valuable for WA and the Vics will have to make all the running to try and win the game.

More important for WA to try and bat as long as they can in the first innings to try and put some distance between themselves and the opposition. A 100 lead would be priceless if they could get to 300 somehow.

just had a quick look and it could be quite humid tomorrow the storms are coming down fast from the north mate - it will be up to the gods all day
no doubt these two bats have to stick around as long as possible and the same goes with all that’s left
the lead is crucial

tremendous effort to scrape up a 120 lead and then took a chunk of wickets - its pretty much over

Turner’s innings has been the making of him in red ball cricket. He hung in during periods when the runs were scarce and pounced on the bad balls. It was an outstanding performance on a pitch where everyone else struggled. Paris supported him brilliantly. He watched balls very well and left the scoring up to Turner in the main. Then it was a great follow up by the bowlers. When Handscomb got out at 6- 74 I thought that WA might have even finished it off today but a bit of resistance from Sutherland has ensured that WA have to bat again.
The expected rain will probably delay the end of the game but if WA can break the current partnership early in the day, it could be over very quickly.

WA tactics this morning have been baffling to say the least, giving Sutherland easy runs to try and get Murphy out. They have finally succeeded but they wouldn’t want the current 85 lead to blow out to 120 or the Vics may feel like they are in with a silly chance.

apart from a mini collapse in their first innings WA almost totally outplayed Victoria
They would be spewing with their insipid batting throughout - that’s what cost them
Turner changed the game entirely

Well done to Wa .
Ashton Turner to the rescue like in the BBL.
Hat trick two year in a row.Beating the Vic’s with there excellent bowling lineup.
