Special General Meeting

Dear all,

As you may be aware by now the SGM has been postponed after a member raised an issue that the letter of the law had not been followed for the one on 19 June.

No need to panic, the SGM will, as far as I am aware, be held at a later time and this will give the Club to make sure that a clause to ensure a members’ vote on any alignment proposal is included in the proposed new constitution.

What has become very very clear since this issue came up is that the members definitely want a say so so far so good.

We now have to ‘maintain the rage’ as they say and make sure that we come along to the new meeting whenever it is to make sure our voices are heard.

The issue will be whether a 50% or 75% vote is needed for an alignment proposal to get up. You know where I stand - an alignment is an identity changing (destroying) event and should only be entered if 3 out of every 4 members want it.

Cheers

Damian

How did they not follow the letter of the law?

I got told there were some amendments to be made and that they needed to give 14 days notice beforehand hence why the meeting had been postponed.

RE: [quote]The issue will be whether a 50% or 75% vote is needed[end quote]

I wonder if that means ALL of Perth’s membership? Or only the members present at the meeting?
If a Perth member was unable to attend for whatever reason, could a written vote be sent and submitted?
Just asking.

I’m not sure Mr AFL but I think no harm done, no screaming urgency.

WAG, it is a vote in person at the meeting or by proxy.

As I said on another thread, I really don’t know why you Perth supporters are getting your knickers in a knot.

Thanks to Mein Fuhrer Howson and his ring-around Members group, East Perth are currently aligned to West Coast until minimum, the end of the 2020 season. And on present indications, it will continue past that date. Except maybe, if…

  1. …Howson is deposed and his successor is anti-alignment. or

  2. …the AFL bring in a Reserves competition, something which according to the AFL Website is apparently not planned until at least 2021.

The only unknown variable is if the all powerful WCE decide there are greater benefits aligning with Perth than EP given the ground sharing arrangements at Lathlain then I would think all bets are off whether Howson likes it or not. WCE and Freo virtually have a free hand to do what they like given the weak as water WAFC bend over at a moments notice.

Yep no-one at PFC panicking, just a concern if there is no Eagles reserves side sheer convenience might be enough to have them express an interest in an alignment with PFC. Might never happen but if it does I am just trying to ensure members are the final decision makers.

Very well done FD.
Sounds like you have you’re finger on the pulse there.
The Perth Footy Club sounds like it’s all fair and democratic.
Unlike other things that could be mentioned.

Not so sure WAG.
We were dudded once before by a President.
Remember Peel?

FreeDees check your private messages.

Couldn’t agree with you any more BC.

The only way an alignment can happen is with the agreement of the WAFL club.
That is why the need for the members to have a say in these decisions.
We have seen a President go against his own board.
It will not happen again.
These amendments are vital for the future of our great Club.

Never a truer post posted DF!!

What happens now then FD?

With EP and WCE parting ways this becomes even more important.

We need to ensure members have their say.

Yes but one now wonders why the club cancelled or in their words postponed the meeting in the first place. Wouldn’t be the first time mixed messages have come out of Lathlain.

I don’t think you actually have to wonder, all this is looking a little to prearranged for mine. Hopefully the members turn up and have their say and make the right call.

Considering our last 40 years, why wouldn’t we want to partner with the WCE. We are a train wreck, don’t get excited that we have won 4 games , it means another year of not playing finals… I would love us to align with West Coast. It’s either that or fold within 3-5 years, which would be devastating!

Long time between posts.

Not for me Omah. We have seen what an alignment has done to East Perth and their supporters over the last six years.
