Shield Prospects 19/20

Our 2 “Openers” Bancroft & Whiteman both improved on their pair of Ducks in the first Innings with 11 & 9 respectively and saw us through to a massive 20 seeing off the new ball for S.Marsh.
No doubt that will get them both another gig in the next few games, sheesh if we stick with them for long enough they may even get a decent opening stand going of say 50 by 2025!

season will slip away fast if these two putz aren’t replaced
it’s time for the 2 young guys desperate for their chance

bease and southerner: I listened to part of the day, it was very nice to hear Wayne Clark being critical of selection policy down at the WACA. He actually mentioned the twenty year shield drought when Minson defended the openers.

This defeat which seems inevitable will surely trigger some changes in the batting for the next shield game against NSW. Carder must be given an opportunity.Whiteman and Cartwright (unless he scores a ton and saves us tommorrow) should be dropped. I would also like Phillipe to move up to the openers spot and Short to be tried at number 6. We just need someone who is willing to dig in and bat for a long time like that young bloke Street did for Queensland.Shaun Marsh has done it before but he needs others to share the load. The bowling balance suffered in this game from the lack of a front line spinner but you would assume that Agar will be back after the 20/20s

Currently 7 for 54…what a disaster…

Yep we are in all sorts of trouble with some dreadful batting yet again but gee we have copped some absolute stinkers from the umpires.
The good thing about the SS now being streamed on the CA website is you get to see how poor some of the umpiring really is…is Joel Wilson the new CA Umpires Coach by any chance?!

I like your thinking but don’t hold your breath. Picking players on form rather than reputation or they’re a good bloke, fun to travel with or what club they play for would be a great start.

Make a fkn decision about Phillipe and stop stuffing the kid around moving him all over the order.

A bit of a rear guard action with Cam Green on 84 and WA 110 in front with 2 wickets in hand. If they get to 150 in front then who knows what may happen. At least the tail is showing a bit of grit…shame the top order didn’t do likewise.

Gutsy effort by the bowlers with the bat…Green is definitely a talent…not only for WA but for Aust in the future…some talent definitely on the fringes for sure…Green, Kelly, Phillipe, Richardson from WA…Nielsen from SA Pucovski and Sutherland from Vic…Bryant and Bartlett from Qld…Conway and Solway from NSW…Meredith from Tassie…no doubt missed a few others too

Green just got his 100…good on him…

Yep, brilliant effort by Cam Green. I agree, he’ll be playing for Australia before long I reckon.

Fair effort by Kelly and Richardson with the bat as well. But is it enough to hold on???

Well doesn’t that beat all…they hung on for a draw thanks to Green.

“The match finishes in a draw after a defiant 121* from Cameron Green. Western Australia recovered from 7-53 to bat for 100 overs and secure a drawn result. Gannon was the best of the bowlers for Queensland, finishing with 4-39. Green earns himself the Player of the Match award for failing to be dismissed in both innings with scores of 87* and 121*”.

Thanks to Cam Green and the tail we hang on for a draw.
A fine double with the bat by the young all rounder- 87* & 121* and a wicket with the ball.

Gannon & Street from QLD look alright as well.

And the only (alleged) all rounder that the selectors and captain don’t see fit to bat in the top 7.

The WA selectors are probably hailing Bancroft as a bowling all rounder now! :silly:

number 8 manages to eke out 208 undefeated runs to save a game
openers have barely managed to get to within 100 of that in three games
somehow clinging to second place

Bancroft and Whiteman’s best opening partnership so far this season has been a pitiful 20 in the 2nd Innings in this game at the GABBA.
Time to give a proper young opening batsmen a go and give the makeshift the boot back to grade cricket to try and make some runs!

Outstanding by Cam Green and also to Kelly, Richardson and Moody who supported him to ensure a draw. Just like Agar and Paris saved our bacon against Tasmania. So when are the actual batsmen going to make a contribution? I will absolve Shaun Marsh who has scored 200 in the last game, 77 in the first innings of this match and got a shocker of a decision yesterday but as for the rest they have been patchy at best. Turner and Agar will be back for the next game so Whiteman and Cartwright will be the omitted players IMO. Also Jhye Richardson will be playing in an AUS XI match in Perth. The scary part is that WA will be playing a full strength NSW team at the SCG including the entire test attack (unless some of them are rested) along with Warner and Smith. Nowhere to hide with this one.

Mikey, as someone has said previously too many all rounders and not enough specialists.

Its almost like they are picking their shield side around trying to keep guys happy to play for WA in the big bash.

I cant see WA doing anything special in the shield this year
