SANFL clubs concerned over Magpies/Power link

SANFL clubs have voiced their concerns at what they see as the increasingly blurred lines between the Power and Magpies football departments.

Under the One Club agreement, the Power and the Magpies are prevented from gaining any “direct football advantage” from their 2010 reunification.

But the following issues have caused concern among SANFL clubs in the past month:

FORMER Essendon defender Henry Slattery, who is being courted by the Magpies and his junior club West Adelaide, being offered a job at the Power as a player welfare officer;

THE POWER inviting five Magpies players to train in the lead-up to the AFL Rookie Draft. Some clubs saw this as a retention tool to keep these players from signing with other SANFL clubs;

POWER coaching director Alan Richardson voicing his plans to groom future assistant coaches at the Magpies;

NEW Magpies coach Ken McGregor talking about his desire to liaise closely with Richardson and Power head coach Ken Hinkley.

The issues were raised at a November 27 SANFL directors meeting and resulted in SANFL football general manager Chris Davies sending a please explain letter to Magpies chief executive Brian Leys.
