A lot has been written and said about the Dockers quandry about whether the ruck duo of Darcy and Jackson can work.
Most say it can’t, or wont.
But I beg to differ.
Three times so fat they have worked together. The first time was when Darcy was brought back in to the team after a shortened preparation. Darcy played poorly.
His second game against the Suns, and Witts. He played his part and was very valuable.
On the weekend, he was used to blunt the influence of Xerri. It worked . Darcy worked Xerri over.
My take is that Darcy handles the bigger rucks better. He uses his body and keeps the opposition ruck away from the drop of the ball.
Darcy is better placed agaisnt the likes of Xerri, Nankervis, Witts and Goldstein. All are hard to move rucks.
Jackson does not handle these types very well as they stop his leap by forcing him to go body on body.
Later in games, Jackson becomes a better ruck because Darcy has worn down the opposition down.
My opinion , they must play Darcy Thursday night against Goldstein, who I much admire. A 37 year old that stood aside at Essendon to allow their younger rucks the chance.North took him and he has stood firm for them with number one ruck, Sam Draper going down.
He gives week in and week out.
