Round 4 V Peel Thunder

Good win by the Colts boys, last 3 quarters were terrific, 2 wins for the season, Some good talent No 7 K. Phillips, Chapman Jones, 47. M Jones

Yep both the Colts and Ressies 2 wins and are in the 5.
Keep it up lads.
Go DEES.

I did feel for the boys yesterday. They probably deserved a win. They had a real hard crack at it all day but a couple of lapses in concentration with only a few moments to go let them down.
At three quarter time ES told them, not for the first time, to maintain focus and concentration.
Sadly three bad center bounces were pounced on by Peel perhaps thru more experience that resulted in them hitting the lead by 2 goals. We were able to scramble one back but fell short by 5 points.
Concentration lapse at a vital moment.
Yes, DF, ES is getting the message through and the boys are learning fast. They must maintain the concentration and learn to take their chances in front of goal.
I am sure that they learnt some important lessons yesterday.

Peel reserves player who got reported, ugly effort and deserves 2-3 weeks on the sideline.
Our Perth player (27) was dazed and unwell

How small was the Crowd??
I know it was raining but seemed low attendance

Some them certainly seem to be stepping up.
How did Arangio go in the ressies?
Kalajzic seem to go well in ressies also.
Are those to capable of stepping up?

Latch & McKenna seem to be great pick ups.
Sinclair & David Johnston doing well.
Does Gianatti look being a regular?

I assume Billy is critical?

Kelvin Lawrence who we picked up from Peel was injured in his first game and was on crutches at the end of the Ressies game

Agree with you DF re McKenna and Latch. Both good pick ups.
Sinclair is a champion of the Hodgey kind.
Johnson is a good replacement for Risol. He may lack in skill but his endeavour cannot be questioned. He wants to play and he is,after all, all we have at the moment. An honest player.
Jury is out as far as I am concerned on Arangio and Kalajzic. They both show potential but will have to step quite a bit at league level.
DS, Scott Moore was ko’d by No. 31 from Peel. I believe that a report was made. Very crude.

Not a win but another competitive effort. With a bit of luck we might have been 2 and 2 now. However, I’m sure the message is we have to get better. Be tougher, concentrate more (esp. kicking for goal), and keep the pressure and focus up for a full 4 quarters. Footy can be over-thought and over-talked.

The doomsayers (what was it embarrassing? worse loss ever?) got it wrong, but I take no pleasure in pointing this out since we are still without a win. Congrats. again the the colts and ressies (both in the 5, which is a good effort after round 1 results).

I still think ES is working out his best team. But obviously having Bateman and White back was a bonus (and did make something of a difference from last week). Mitch Morton probably would have seen us over the line on the weekend. I think that ES probably has a top 15 from my reckoning, but after that things slip away. Some of that other 7 or so are young kids still learning the game. I think Arangio will come back in this week (for Ransted), and given Hug’s form in the 2’s there is a chance he might come in if for e.g. Bateman is not available. Still have Irons, M. Morton, J. Morton to come back, and we’ll wait and see whether Lawrence is up to WAFL (might be a couple of more weeks if his injury was a bad one), and whether there’s any light at the end of the tunnel for Hodge.

What I want from here on is a solid patient grounded build-up of performance. I want to see us generally improve as the season goes on, much like we did in Blackwell’s first year. I want us to get better as the season goes on. My thinking is that ES is a patient coach, a coach who builds confidence, and a coach who can instil basics to ensure this team has a platform for next season. I heard someone say the other day that teams sometimes play for “survival” and not to “achieve”. That rang true with me. We’ve been too much about “survival”. I want us to be about “achievement”. But that means making the players believe. I hope ES is the man.

I identified the two Jones boys as possible league players at the beginning of the season on here (not my opinion; more me repeating the opinion of a footy person who knows young kids). I want to see us elevate some colts boys for the last 7 games of the season or so. They can instil something in a team. If anyone has been studying our colts closely I’d love an opinion on whether you think which players could play league this year if any.

I think we also have recruited another player from East Perth. This guy played reserves for us on Saturday (not sure how he went; stats were OK), and played league for East Perth back in 2013. Still young at 22 or 23. Name is Ashley Boyes.

Notice that Stack had a good game possession wise in the reserves, so he might be a chance for league. I think he and Arangio should come in to the side if it’s a clear day. We need to kick goals against Claremont.

Seriously I don’t know why some people keep pumping up Hug. The guy is small, slow and disposal is poor. He is a liability. We need players with a bit of dash and skill who can take the game on.

Sadly thats what a lot of our supporters do.
Ive been saying it for years and i usually get slammed for it,“some supporters over-rate some of our players abilities”.

In my opinion we have to many players of the same height, weight and ability and its in the “small player” category.
Its ok having the smallish guy but with that you want pace and ability, how many of our small guys have that?

Personal Demon,
I think we just have to kick goals period!
We are only averaging 8 goals per game that is not going to win you many games if any including if its a wet day.

Nothing wrong with giving your players a boost, especially the young guys. Not that I remember pumping up Hug. Just suggested he might come in if Chance was injured based on his BOG in the 2nds.

PS: who was it DD who rubbished Dene White when he came back to the club?

I agree PD a lot of supporters bagged Dene White I for one have always been a fan.
Always a red hot go, now he has developed and I think his disposal has improved and I think a lot of it is having confidence particularly under pressure.
Confidence can be a huge thing.

just look at Tropiano!!..having a great season for you boys, would love him back at EF, though saying that he wouldn’t get a game with similar more preferred types in his way…amazing what opportunity can do for you I guess…well done to the guy, touch wood he keeps it going!

Not lighting a fire here boys, but I see Duffy picked up a few possessions on Sat…did he play well or just simply a case a bucket full of possessions with little hurt attached to them!

Freeze yes Troppo has been a good pickup for us. I have been a big fan since I watched him play his first game mid season.

The reference to Duffy is irrelevant. He is on a Dockers list with an aligned team now. You might as well mention all the other Eagles and Dockers listed players from Perth playing for EP and PT too if that is the point you are trying to make!! Its been great not listening to bounces diatribe this year so some advice for you is buy a new guitar because that tune was played to death…

No probs Lucifer…I’ll just wait till BTB comes on next to post then :stuck_out_tongue:

Hug has played League, Reserves, League, Reserves … On that basis it’s League again this week
