Yippeee…it appears both have gone. More to come at a media conference at 1PM…
Yeah just heard that BC.
I wonder who their respective replacements will be?
I’m not sure BH but apparently Lyon won’t be coaching next weekend. The names being thrown around already are Longmuir, Sumich, Brad Scott and even Worsfold. You’d think Freo would have someone in mind before turfing Lyon out…but then again..it is Freo after all.
Sorry didn’t see your post here BC. Anyway has to be Peter Sumich for me. WA just won the u18’s championship and there’s a rich crop of West Australian talent in that draft and no one knows that talent better than Peter Sumich who also just happens to be Fremantle through and through and watch supporters come out of the woodwork and jump on board.
Brisbane’s rapid rise up the ladder has also been damming for Ross Lyon and included in that is the loss of Lachie Neale to Brisbane.
I think Suma will be in the mix DD but wouldn’t be surprised if someone like Voss gets the nod. Others like Sam Mitchell and Schofield need a couple more years as assistants and not sure Brad Scott is what they need. Interesting times indeed. I’m also pleased Rosich is going as there was an unholy alliance between him and Lyon which wasn’t healthy for mine…it looks like Belly is having an impact.
Would be great to see Sumu get the gig, seems like he’s done the longest apprenticeship in the history of the AFL. That is the only concern, why have so many clubs discarded his applications for a head coaching job?
Who ever gets the job needs to be really asertive and totally in control of all things football and make sure the admin stays out of the footy department. Brad Scott is that sort of character as is Worsfold, but Woosh has unfinished business at the Bombers, seems he has them in the finals so would want to take that further in the next couple of years.
Do they go with an experienced but untried assistant or recycle a current or past head coach. probably the most important decision the club will make in it’s checkered history of bad and worse decisions. Make the wrong decision and the faithfull who are hanging on by a thread will turn their backs. An initial 2 year contract for starters gives the new coach enough time to show if they have the ability or not.
I think Freo did the right thing when they got Lyon on board as he took them to a GF in his second year and was seen as a finishing coach after Harvey did all the hard work but the extension in 2016 was very shortsighted and he should have gone at the end of last year for mine.
I don’t know why the fuck anyone would bandy around Brad Scott as a possible candidate he was not successful at NM and just another grumpy stubborn coach. And any moron that says I won’t accept any WCE player as coach, Grow the Fuck up!
I actually think someone like Worsfold would be a good fit as he’s a Freo boy and a premiership coach bt agree with SS in that he will have unfinished business at the bummers.

Cam Shepherd and Phil Smart
Nailed it dazzler, forgot that we in the West are blessed with the undoubted talents of the Coach of the century. Based on past selections by Freo you’d be forgiven for thinking both those numpties are well in the mix.

Agree that Schoey needs more time as an assistant but I think Mitchell with 2 years as an assistant would be a great choice, coming out of the Hawthorn system, he is rated so highly by so many, but would he even consider taking on a basket case like Freo? Not sure about Voss, one of the greatest players to pull on a boot but that doesn’t always translate to coaching where as Mitchell, imho has the temperament and ruthless personality to succeed, he was very highly regarded by the Weags.

Yep Cam has done his apprenticeship under Ross and he should be right to go now to take over the reins at Cockburn!!!
The real winner in this is Cam Shepherd.
This week he gets to coach Peel the way he wants.
Fair dinkum, last week against Swans after 3 Qtrs of practising strangling any life out of the game they were too exhausted in the last Qtr that even kicking with the breeze they couldn’t muster a goal.
All the best to Ross+Rosich for life after Freo.To be sacked a few days before the last home+away game seems a bit crude. But the culture at the club must be Toxic.
Maby it’s a last ditch attempt to the Hill brothers and Ed Langdon. But the Saints 900k offer to Brad Hill seems to good to refuse.
New coaches -Woosha-Brad Scott-Longmuir-Sumich-Schofield-Sam Mitchell.
Ross-Got the boys into a GF.And was let down by some bad goal kicking on the day.Top of the ladder in 2015 and ran into that Champion Hawks again.Since then it’s been going around in circles.Only winning 31 off the last 90 games.Rebuilding a list is not Ross strong point. He was really done in 2016.Take the cash Ross and move on.
Think Ross Lyon was pretty dignified in his address to the media. It’s not easy for all involved when these things happen so in the circumstances Lyon handled himself well, as did others.
Search on for a new coach, oh yeah that Cam Shepherd is good for nothing more than a solid hearty giggle.
Seriously all the names mentioned thus far have merit, bar one - and yes he is a Fremantle boy. Sumich is the only name touted that for me beggars belief - off the radar for a number of years after leaving Fremantle as an assistant (yes i’m aware of who he is currently coaching), name has been thrown up for the last decade whenever senior jobs have come up and not even a contender for any of the recent positions that have been filled. Hard to consider someone out of the AFL system for 3 years and never been a senior coach before. But hey whatever floats peoples boats. Worsfold has a track record far superior if Fremantle were to cross the bridge so to speak.
Longmuir looms for mine, can’t understand the rants against Brad Scott - for mine (and yes my opinion) has done a decent job against the odds at one of the under resourced clubs in Victoria which is not something I underestimate.
Make it easy and simple and lock in Longmuir - otherwise who knows Earl Spalding could loom out of the pack, the wise heads at Fremantle may have been honing in on Perth’s meteoric rise up the WAFL ladder this year and are keen to pounce.
Sportsbet odds for new Freo coach.
1.Justin Longmuir $1.70
Brad Scott $3
David Hale $5
Michael Voss $5.50.
Michael Prior $5.50
And some long shots
Peter Sumich $13
Allistar Clarkson $17+John Worsfold $17
Simon Goodwin$21.
Remember Freo poached Ross of Stkilda.
I reckon Mark Harvey would be a pretty happy man today
Dean Laidley
In my opinion Peter Sumich is the coaching equivalent of Tim Kelly playing in the WAFL right under the nose of the two Perth teams yet overlooked. He ticks all the boxes for me. Was a highly successful player and highly skilled and a good footy brain. The only Fremantle fans that won’t embrace him are those shortsighted anything Eagles haters just like Freo haters.
