Rod Alderton -Excitement Machine

Even as a Perth Supporter, that’s how I remembered the High Flying Cardie, who brought the West Perth and even other club fans to their feet.

Good story on Rod.Even the story on Dennis’watch ending in time was a great laugh, when Dennis went overboard to illustrate his point.

I noticed when I browsed through the ‘84 Season,Rod collected over 40 possessions against Perth in the opening Round.Wow!He must have been the Number 1 Midfielder that day, whilst Les Fong must have played as the Change Rover, collecting a Mideast 20 or so possessions(by Les’ standards).

Terrible that Rod Alderton’s carrier ended far too early.Had he played in an era, where a knee reconstruction meant your career wasn’t necessarily over,he may have played 250 + games.

Still a great player in my book.

Whilst reflecting on Rod’s Career,I wondered if it was worth All Clubs’ Image to produce Badges of their past players,Champions, greats and all?

Or Badges for each player in Clubs’ Teams of The Century.

Actually,I think I’ll start a new thread or 2 on the WAFL Section.Thanks Rod!

Rocket Rod was what the WP cheer squad behind the goals at the Tech Schoool end used to call him…Rocket as in sky rocket me thinks as he had a fair ol leap!

What can I remember about Rod.Did he play Full-Fwd.Like a lot of West Perth players in that era had a killer Torpedo Punt.Wore no 8.
