Its a convenient scapegoat to blame all the other community, diversity and inclusion programs that the club has been involved in. The club has had to go down this path to remain relevant and stay in business.
One fact overlooked in all this is that Swans have been very much an underperforming club since the Todd era of the mid 80s, well before anyone had dreamt of WAFLW or Integrated football or other programs. Other clubs do this sort of stuff as well and still manage success at WAFL level
2 premierships in 40 years is very little to show and apart from one good period (2008-10 under Dawson who was the only top class coach we have had since Toddy) it has been slim pickings for the Swans supporters. Baffling recruitment of interstate players who were not committed to the club and invariably leave after a few seasons, sub standard skills season after season, over defensive game plans by coaches with no imagination. My criticism of the club is more about the quality of the football I see week after week as opposed to what the club is trying to do off the field
Mike I have previously stated many times on the Swans forums here we have been an underperforming WAFL club for far too long. Outside of the Dawson era (2008-10) we havent even played in another League GF in the last 35 seasons. Yes the club has done some great work off the field in turning the clubs finances around but imho we need to place a larger focus on the mens playing side with a greater emphasis on getting committed a grade talent in the door and more focus on coaching expertise, development, s&c, fitness and skills!
In my opinion we are lacking in all of these categories compared to our contempories and the results are there for all to see with the disastrous 2025 on top of many other forgettable years since 1990!
