Rd9 Swans vs Peel at Rushton Park

This week we take the trip down the Kwinana/Forrest Hwy to the Estuary and on a long weekend to boot.
Good to get the 4 points last week after dropping 2 in a row against perennial Top 4 aspirants and this week we take on another side who have Top 4 aspirations.
Freo will probably bring back Taberner this week so Treacy will be back for Peel but not sure where else Freo’s injury list as at as havent followed it closely.
For us Jetts has served his 1 week suspension, not sure where Costigan is at injury wise after being injured 5 minutes into the season vs CL whilst unfortunately Spackman might have injured his knee last week vs EF and could be out for a while which is a shame as he was really cementing his spot down back as a lockdown defender and one of the few to keep Knott from WP goalless a few weeks back, but quite a few boys in the Ressies are putting their hand up for selection.

…And this match being covered by SportFM apparently. A win by Swans here would help position themselves in a good spot as we approach the second half of the season.

Has anyone heard what the results were from Spackman’s knee scan are?

Reported in the West today that Spackman has ruptured his ACL and is out for the rest of the season. Very unfortunate for him as he had developed into a very reliable defender.
As for the game who knows what we will get from Peel on Saturday. They have beaten Perth, East Perth and West Coast but have lost to Subiaco, Claremont, East Fremantle and South Fremantle. That would suggest that they are very beatable and if Swans can play at their best on Saturday we should come away with a victory to lift us to 5-3.
These are the sorts of games we need to bank in order to be considered a finals chance. Jetta is back and will probably be the only change, replacing Spackman
Unlike WCE reserves, Peel have a cohort of good WAFL players to back up the Fremantle guys.

Dreadful news about young Spackman Mike.
He was becoming a very reliable lockdown defender for us.

Big loss, lost our best lockdown small defender who covers for Beck and Waite who have no idea who their man is

If you guys can bring the same sort of aggressive physical pressure you did against Subi in the 2nd half you should easily account for Peelmantle, hope you give them a shellacking.

There are a few cliches applicable to that one, but I’ll select ‘a win is a win’. The positive is that we could still pull off a win despite so many having off days - at least Edwards’ one kick was super effective. Eight games, and only one goal score against over ten (vs Cl), with the defence again playing well today.

Interested to hear the story about Jetta’s absence today. Bright playing a reserves and league game means it must have been short notice.

I warned you all last week. Time to say goodbye to Jetta!!! And despite our record it’s time Pickering went also.

Didn’t get there but from following the scores it sounds like Swans were lucky that Peels conversion rate was appalling. They had around 20 more inside 50’s in the game which you would think would have translated into a win for the home team. Jettas no show is a concern but why would you want Pickering to go now Danger, when Swans are 5 - 3 and a definite chance for finals?

Reading the worst I was not sure you had actually won as it was all abt mandurah, it is a good win and that is all that matters.

Great result for WA footy.Swans knock off a top 5 rival away from home. And the hard fought match is a good hit out for the Dockers listed players.

Lewis Jetta was photographed with a group of people who were doing the Matagarup Bridge walk to Optus stadium yesterday. Swans obviously did not realise that these were his plans or the communication broke down somewhere along the line if a guy had to play 2 games.

On a more positive note, it was a pretty good day for all our Swans teams yesterday although the reserves had to battle to beat the bottom team. The Colts had a strong win to jump to the top of the ladder. The Womens team lost their first game of the season though after 13 straight wins.

Did you mean the Sunday Times Grump? I have generally found the West to be pretty even handed with their reporting this year but the Sunday times is very AFL centric and as BH often says you wonder if their reporters are actually at the game or just following the WAFL app at the pub or the races!

I believe that the league players all caught a bus down to Mandurah yesterday. I will reserve my judgment about what happened with respect to Jetta apart from saying that if the club was not aware of the situation he needs to play at least 2 reserves’ games before even being considered for league selection.

I’d say there are a few borderline League players thinking the same thing, but I wouldn’t hold my breath

Laddies call me Nostradamus once more as I have returned from my little trip north in my caravan to you guessed it, 5 and 3 and 3rd on the ladder. Reserves and colts are also top so what a time to be a little black duck. Rest the legs laddies and push on after the break as this season seems very even.

You know the saying - it’s never as good as it looks and it’s never as bad as it looks.

Jetta - he knows and the players know he doesn’t want to be there. Would you rather him take the piss for the rest of the year or would you rather promote a devoted youngster from the ressies?

Laddie you speak like a sneaky insider with more info than the rest of us poor supporters. On face value Jetta was a late out and with the reserves playing at 9am it threw a sidchrome tool box in the works with no wriggle room as would be usual without the revised WAFL match day that supports the ladies match. You know more my negative nelly laddie?

It was good to get away from Mandurah with the 4 points but we were a touch lucky as we didnt play well (Peelmantle structured up well) and Peelmantle didnt kick straight at all.
But having said that there have been many games in the recent past where the exact opposite has happened to us so will take the 4 points and move on to our big test against WP at Basso in a fortnight.
The last few times we have played WP they have overran us with ease in the last qtr.

Not ideal having to have a player play 8 qtrs of footy over the day especially with the Reserves having played at 9am (with a WAFLW game played before the League) so with Jetta a late out Bright had to back up and did a reasonable job I thought as we need to find a replacement for Spackman down back with him out for the rest of the year.
The Ressies came from behind to get a win whilst the Colts played probably close to their best footy of the season so far especially with all of the psa boys missing and many other youngsters getting opportunities to show their wares.
